How to Make a Custom Wood Bed
With my nephews getting older it’s time to separate them into their own bedrooms and dress up their decor a bit. The baby blue walls will be gone and the furniture more grown up. And it freaking kills me.
I hate feeling old and that is happening more and more. Soon the oldest will be in middle school and just yesterday a song I heard when I was a kid (around 9) was on the freaking oldies station. I about wigged out! But I understand that kids age and we gotta let them. So we’re all putting in our bit of effort to make it happen for them. In the case of me and my dad, it was to design and build a custom bed for one nephew.
It was some hard work but it was also fun work. It took about 8 hours including staining, which I think we all know is the bear of any wooden project. Plus this sucker is all wood, no composite boards or anything junky and it will last him all the way through high school easy. We even super reinforced the thing just in case he isn’t too grown up now to jump on his bed from time to time.
So head on over to iLoveToCreate to see my dad and I in action and this time building a bed. It’s really not nearly as difficult as you might think and if you can work that circular saw and drill, well you’re already almost done with this thing, aren’t you?

I am LOVING this bed big time. It is so stylish in a simplistic sort of way. Sometimes less is more and in my opinion you have that totally covered with this bed. Loving the bedspread and matching pillow. BTW, continue loving the time you are spending with your very precious, sweet and cute dad. Such special moments of life!!! Triple thumbs up on this project!!!

Thanks so much, Cindy! I’m so glad that it reads “boy” to you. That was our big, big goal and it’s nice to know it comes across that way (BTW he loves the bed and loves that his Chief built it just for him :)
