Everything in my life tends to be cyclical. From the food I crave to the crafts I make, I’m typically neck-deep in the same things over and over again. Right now I can’t seem to get enough coffee or yarn. And luckily I’ve had plenty of both in the last few weeks :) And candy canes. I cannot keep candy canes around this place. They just freaking disappear!
But back to that whole yarn business. I made a bunch of pom poms that I used to make Christmas ornaments and a wreath but I’ve mostly been using it to crochet. Right now in my chest of drawers I have SEVEN crochet hats, a crochet ear warmer and FOUR crochet scarves, all of which I’ll be sharing the patterns for in the coming weeks. Plus I have yet another hat on my hook and enough yarn to make 12 different scarves, though they’re all going to be the same pattern. Can you even believe it. I’ve been hookin’ like I mean it!
Christmas is right around the corner!
And because I’m feeling all Christmas-y AND yarn obsessed I decided to take one of my patterns and work it up in Christmas colors. This red and green crochet hat is so Christmas-y and I just love it. But using a bright grass green rather than a more traditional Christmas green makes it seem a little more all winter wearable to me. Of course, you don’t HAVE to make a red and green crochet hat. You can make pink and gray! Black and white! Yellow and blue! Yep, you guessed it, any colors you please!

Basic Supplies Needed to Crochet Your Own Christmas Crochet Hats:
The Yarn
I used Michael’s Loops and Threads Impeccable in Claret and Loops and Threads Impeccable in Grass.
The Hook
I’m currently obsessed with Furls Fiber Arts Hooks.
The Leather Garment Tags
For all of my current designs I use the faux leather garment tags on the hats from Birch and Cider. I love this small business. Great quality, prices, and reasonable time between order and receiving the tags. Plus when you chat with her about proofs and whatnot, she’s super sweet!
Pattern Notes
- I’m labeling this hat a Christmas Hat simply because of the color scheme. This design would be lovely using a wide variety of colors and is certainly not a design exclusive to Christmas (unlike the Crochet Christmas Tree Hat I shared a little bit ago! :)
- In this pattern Color A is Red and Color B is Green. You can substitute any colors for A and B.
- Chains at the beginning of the rounds do NOT count as the first stitch.
- When working this project do not turn your work. Continue to crochet in the same direction for every round.
