I feel like it can’t possibly be time to start preparing for Valentine’s Day. I mean, Christmas is barely even over, isn’t it? Despite the fact that I’m a bit pissy about how quickly time is moving on me, I still love, love, love Valentine’s Day.
It’s not about the actual holiday… Not feeling sorry for myself, but to be honest I can’t remember how many years it has been since I was given anything. What Valentine’s Day is about for me is the decor. I adore little hand drawn hearts and written XOXO and these things are in abundance around Valentine’s Day. Conversation hearts don’t exactly hurt the holiday either.
These love sneakers are cute and easy. If you can write the word “love” and draw little hearts you’re pretty well set, my friend.
For this DIY you will need:
- Fabric Markers (red and black)
- White canvas sneakers
- White craft paint & fine brush
First you’ll need your shoes – I chose to work with lace up canvas sneakers. The cat assistant is totally optional, and to be honest I can’t recommend one. They tend to get in the way more than anything…
Take your fabric marker and write “LOVE” continue to write it in a combination of uppercase, lowercase and cursive. Draw a heart sporadically. To keep things interesting, constantly turn the shoe all willynilly before writing so each word is at a different angle. If you’re a bit apprehensive, it might be a good idea to practice on a bit of paper.
Continue filling in the space.
And fill in the hearts as the black ink dries (or else it will bleed something nasty).
Feel free to sneak in a little saying…
Looking for a little more oomph, I filled in the occasional “O” with black marker and then placed a dot randomly inside of white craft paint.
Write out XOXO on your tongues in various sizes.
And prepare to fall in love with your new sneakers! Happy Shoesday!
*** And be sure to come back next Tuesday when you’ll have the chance to win a pair of gorgeous hand painted shoes valued at $90 in my very first ever giveaway!!!

Awesome. I just love your shoes. Will be looking forward to see the latest arrivals.
Those shoes are awesome. I really liked it a lot.
Will permanent markers work for this project or do they have to be fabric markers?
Hey, Phoenix, actually permanent markers will bleed something awful on you and you’ll have a blurry mess. Most Staples sell the fabric Sharpies individually so you can just pick up one black and one red for around $4!
So glad, Sofia! Cat assistant's are a lot of trouble, but they're totally worth it :) Thanks for checking out the blog!
I just found you from another blog and let m etell you… I love LOVE l<3ve this shoes!!
I'm not that found of this kind of snickers but am totally able to wear them like this! So if you excuse me I even got a cat assistant myself… gotta go write on some cloth! :P
