True story… about a decade my doctor told me that I could no longer have any food or drink which contained high amounts of acid. I was sad. Bye bye daily orange juice! But then I learned that my lifeblood, sweet tea was way up there on the list of things I could not have. I was beyond sad. But I quit drinking it for a good 8 years. Cold turkey and all that.

But then I was all, screw that! I want me some sweet tea with my burger today! And it just became a habit again. And then my doctor figured out what was going on and I got a royal chewing out which was entirely warranted. I was sad again. Then my Momma introduced me to green tea. And my doctor is totally okay with it. Yay!

At first I was really anti green tea. I mean, it tastes like GRASS. Though I’ve never actually eaten grass that I can recall I’m absolutely positive that I am correct on this one. And these days whenever I smell someone mowing their lawn I get thirsty :)

At any rate I LOVE green tea these days. And a recent trip to the doctor for some PCOS acne that I had going on (I feel that on your 30th birthday you should get a no more acne membership or card or something) and weird T-zone business I was informed that my problem was that cleansers were generally too harsh for my face. I would use something and my skin would get jacked up and I’d get something stronger and it would just get worse. It was this awful cycle. And guess what she told me I should do? Instead of soap these days I grab a green tea bag and put it under the hottest water I can get from my bathroom tap. I let cool just a bit and wash my face with it like it’s a little facial scrubber. Rinse, pat dry and be done with it.

I was skeptical at first but my skin started clearing up the next day! Plus I could already see my pores becoming smaller, my skin feeling tighter, my forehead and nose less oily and my entire face feeling softer. So I started making my own green tea facial scrub. I gotta tell you my face has never been happier!

To make your own green tea sugar scrub you need:

Now I’ve linked to some green tea matcha you can purchase at Amazon though I’ve never used it. I prefer Osulloc which I purchase at my local Asian grocery store. And, no, I have not a clue what that writing says. Except for “since 1979”.

Put about 1/4 cup of coconut oil and about a tablespoon of matcha into a bowl.

Add in the contents of a green tea bag if you choose to. Mix well.

Add sugar. In the end you’ll probably get around 3/4 cup in the bowl but just pour a bit to get started.

Give a good stir and continue adding sugar until the texture isn’t so greasy that your fingers just get coated and the mixture will sort of ball up easily. Again, it will probably be around 3/4 cup.

  1. can I use olive oil instead of coconut oil?

    1. Absolutely! Feel free to change the oil for your favorite. I’ve found olive oil to be too heavy for my skin and I’d probably go with jojoba instead but do your thing!

  3. This looks awesome! How long is the shelf life for this?

    1. Mine normally only lasts 2-3 months before it is used up and it hasn’t gone bad on me yet :)
