Back in June I figured out just how amazing it is to crochet with jute. I hooked together this easy Crochet Jute Doormat Pattern (with tassels!) and fell in LOVE. Now I’ve hooked together 4 different projects with jute and I have to say, I wish I realized how cool jute is before 2020.

Right now I’m kind of changing my home décor aesthetic to something more bohemian, I suppose. I’m all about lightly stained woods and natural décor15″ Round Pillow Form objects. But I’m still that gal that loves a good strong pop of bright colors… Looking around at my throw pillows in the living room I felt like they fit more of a shabby chic style. And so it was time to switch those pillows up! I looked online and found only a handful of pillow covers I liked. But as soon as I saw these faux leather pillows I snapped those suckers up. Since they were kind of expensive I decided to supplement those faux leather pillows with others stashed in the guest room closet.

This beige living room is getting a little bit of bohemian flair thanks to a DIY blanket ladder, sassy vase and gorgeous throw pillows.

Doesn’t that faux leather pillow look gangbusters? His brother is on the other end of the love seat just out of view… And with my collection of Kantha quilts made from recycled fabrics the room is really coming together. But as I stood admiring my living room for the bazillionth time I decided that I wanted to add something a little more natural on the sofas. And when I remembered how straight up lovely it is to rub my hands and feet on my jute rug it became jute pillow time.

Crochet Jute Pillows With Cotton, With a Scalloped Edge and Without…

Because I love having a lot of options available I decided to make 2 different crochet jute pillows. There’s a gorgeous pillow that’s nothing but jute and another that has cotton yarn added for a little bit of softness. That being said, even with cotton yarn this pillow will still be a bit scratchy, so keep that in mind.

Because I didn’t want both pillows to be exactly the same I whipped up a scalloped edge on one. In the free printable crochet jute pillow pattern you’ll find directions for solid jute with and without a scalloped edge and jute twine and cotton yarn with and without a scalloped edge. Hook ’em how you want ’em and mix and match!

Supplies Needed to Make a Round Jute Pillows:

The Yarn & Twine

The cotton I used for these pillows is I Love This Cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby in the color Warm Blush. The jute either came from Lowe’s or Walmart and it’s just twine you get from the hardware/rope section.

The Hook

I’m currently obsessed with Furls Fiber Arts Hooks.

Easy Crochet Jute Pillow Pattern Notes

  • These pillows are 2 simple circles joined together.
  • The cotton and jute version of this crochet jute pillow is made with a strand of 2mm jute twine and a strand of worsted (weight 4) yarn worked together.
  • The jute only version is made with a thicker 3mm jute twine only. If a thicker twine is unavailable, you can work this pattern using 2 strands of a thinner jute at the same time. Your crochet hook might need to be adjusted in size from what is suggested in the pattern.
  • CHAINS at the beginning of all rounds NEVER count as the first stitch.
  • Each round of both patterns will increase by exactly 12 stitches.
  • When crocheting these pillows do not turn your work. Continue to crochet in the same direction for every round.
  • If you find your finished circles have jagged edges rather than a smooth round edge, blocking might be necessary for a more circular shape.

Working together, the jute cord and cotton yarn create an interesting feel and texture that is still comfortable to use. Make 2 pieces to join together to form the front and back of your pillow.

Crochet Jute Round Pillow Pattern

There’s no doubt that this solid jute pillow is gorgeous. Because of it’s coarse texture, however, it is not, however, a pillow you’re going to want to cozy up with. So keep in mind that this pillow is form over function!
