Today I propose you to make some letters cushions. You can write your kids names, or choose some cute words as LOVE or JOY if you prefer to use them in the living room.
You gonna need fabric, a sewing machine, a needle, foam filling, paper, ruler, pencil.
Draw every letter on a sheet of paper and cut them.
Report twice the letter shape on the back of the fabric. Don’t forget you must have one letter in the right side and the other in reverse.
Cut out the fabric letters leaving ½ ‘ of fabric all around to make the seam.
Cut a strip of fabric of 3 “wide. You can use a matching fabric or the same as the letter. Be sure that the strip is long enough to cover all the letter edges.
Place the strip right side on the letter right side and start sewing the edges together. Try to follow the letter pattern.
To keep sewing every side of the letter, you will need to make an incision in the strip at every angle.
When you finish sewing the first letter with the strip, place the second letter on top of it, wrong side out. Pin carefully the letter with the strip, be sure both letters are exactly on top of each other. Sew the second letter with the strip. When you finish, return the cushion to have the right side out.
Fill the cushion with foam.
Finish with a few hand stitches to close the gap. And that’s it.
Obviously some letters are more difficult that other to make. I had a hard time with the N but the S was surprisingly easy. My son was happy to have his name on cushions, I will have to make some others for his sister… Lucky me, she as a short name also!
Thanks for sharing this! I just love it! <3
