For years my big contribution to the family’s Christmas festivities has been a ridiculous amount of homemade cookies. We’re talking sugar cookies, oatmeal chocolate chip, peanut butter, macaroons, chocolate covered macaroons, classic chocolate chip, butter cookies and pecan sandies. In addition, I have always made and highly decorated gingerbread men.

The little guys were always the last to go and only one person would choose them over the others. My Poppa would grab a nice assortment of cookies, including my favorite and most time consuming cookie treats. But then again, this is a man who would often order whatever was biggest on the menu.

So last year when making his Christmas stocking pattern, it only made sense to do something food related. Since gingerbread men are by their very nature decorative, I decided to go with that. Just for good measure, he appears to be distressed because a big bite has been taken out of his head.

Poppa won’t be celebrating Christmas with us this year and I really wish that he would have gotten to see it. I’m pretty sure that he would have thought it was quite comical! I’d love to share with you the pattern I created for this stocking that will always remain with me since I can’t give it to the man I designed it for.

Thanks so much, Mickie. Really pretty glad to know that I am not the only one that has gone cookie nuts ;)

  3. Thank you for the pattern! It caught my eye because gingerbread are my favorite too (I'm partial to Mrs. Field's gingerbread recipe). Like you, I've been the cookie maven for my family for decades. Your Poppa sounds like he was a really special person. Hugs, Mickie
