Tattooed Martha - Tropical Heat Fruit Salsa

Here in the Midwest we’re all joking about the “heat wave” that’s been hitting us this past week and it inspired me to add a little heat to my recipe as well! I put together this Tropical Heat Fruit Salsa that’s a sweet and spicy mixture of tropical fruits, a bit of citrus, and my favorite slow burning pepper.. the habanero. Not to worry if you prefer a milder taste.. you can always remove the seeds or swap it out for a seeded jalapeño while still maintaining that sweet heat flavor. For those of you experiencing real winter, this should help warm you up in no time!

(makes 3 servings)

1 cup finely chopped pineapple

1 cup finely chopped mango

1/2 cup (4-5 whole strawberries) diced strawberries

1 habanero pepper, finely diced, seeds removed for less heat

1 Tbs finely diced shallot or red onion

1 Tbs fresh cilantro, finely chopped

Juice from half a lime

Salt and pepper to taste

Alright… this one is a complicated one, so try to keep up: Combine everything in a large bowl, stir, and serve! You can get creative with it for parties and serve it up in margarita glasses garnished with lime or just dig in. I recommend doubling or even tripling the recipe for large groups because it goes quick!
