From Totally Chic to Totally Geek Costume Tutorial
Can you guess what movie I’ve watched recently? Yep, that one. Moving on…
Today’s costume is super easy and chances are you won’t need to buy a whole lot to rock this one out. And if you do, a quick trip to the thrift store will have you all set. The geek or nerd costume has been a very popular one and I’ve gone as such myself on an occasion or two!
I was pretty surprised when little nephew wanted to be a nerd for Halloween. Well, not Halloween proper, that is strictly for Ninjas, but perhaps for Halloween at school. I was pretty excited because the costume would be using things that he already has, or can be reused in every day life for the most part. I mean, we both love those totally weird skin suits where it’s all Spandex and it even covers the face and head, but when are you going to wear that thing again? And, everybody can see your man business, as I’ve been told.
For this costume you need:
- Shorts + tall socks or slacks
- Button up shirt
- Black glasses + white paint = nerd specs
- Hair gel
- Cheap binder + scissors + pens = pocket protector
First the glasses. These were 99 cents and half off at a thrift store. Score!
Take a stiff bristled brush and make your “tape”. You can use real tape if you have it, but be warned, kids WILL pick at it!
For your pocket protector, take a binder and slice the vinyl off of one side carefully.
Fold over to make the flap that will go over the pocket.
Trim to fit the pocket, insert and fill with pens.
Gel up a cowlick…
add a pair of too big undies peeking out the back for a fab wedgie!
And revel in the nerdiness that is this fab geek costume and be thrilled at the price (this one came up to 2.49 for a thrifted tie, shirt and pair of glasses!)
