T-shirt to Stuffed Animal Refashion

February 20, 2016RaChil Luke

I used one of my favorite shirts from high school that has this creepy-cute panda on the front. I’ve been keeping this shirt knowing that I had to be able to come up with something awesome to do with it and I finally came up with this! I think this would be a great kids craft, kids would love receiving one of these or making their own! Now just because they outgrew the shirt doesn’t mean they have to get rid of it.

  • T-shirt with character/animal design
  • Matching thread
  • Scissors
  • Needle or Sewing Machine
  • Pins
  • Stuffing

Step 1: Either mark or eye a 1/4-1/2 in. border around the image from your shirt. Pin the front of the shirt down to the back. Cut around your image including the border.

Step 2: Put your pieces together with the wrong sides facing out. Pin together.

Step 3: Use your sewing machine to sew around the outside of your image. Since I had a 1/2 in. border when I cut the panda out, I went with a 1/4 in. seam. Leave  about 2 in. unsewn.
step 4

Step 4: Turn inside out through the whole you left open. Stuff!

Step 5: Using your thread and a needle, sew up the stuffing hole. I like to use the ladder stitch to finish my stuffed animals.

Now you have a cuddly version of a shirt that you loved!
finale1You can use just about any shirt for this tutorial, cushions can be made from shirts too! It doesn’t have to just be stuffed animals. Band tee’s would be great for a teens room! Your imagination is the limit

Til Next Time!
