Simple Upcycled Patchwork
Funky patchwork gear is absolutely everywhere these days, thankfully it’s super easy to whip it up yourself so there’s no need to waste money on this fun to create trend! You may even already have all of the bits needed lurking about the house!
Grab a boring bag, raid your stash of scraps and create your own unique style for Spring with my Simple Upcycled Patchwork tutes!
That vintage leather bag had been sitting in my refashionista stash for years and even made the international move from Berlin to Toronto with me so it was about time to finally jazz it up! I chose some embroidery chopped from a table cloth and a patch from my collection but any kind of scrappy fabric will do to embellish your bag + strong all-purpose glue.
The front of my bag was a bit concave and wouldn’t lay flat so I stuffed a rolled up t-shirt into the bag to create an even area for my patches.
Try a variety of placements and combinations with your patches to help decide what you like best.
Apply the all-purpose glue to your patches – I use a cotton swab to gently roll the glue to the outer edges.
Stick all of your patches in place.
Grab a piece of wax paper or a baking sheet, place it under the patches and pop some heavy books on top of the whole shebang then allow to dry completely. (I left mine overnight just to be extra sure)
Enjoy your fabulous new bag! (or gift it away to an appreciative buddy!)
