Any kind of pet can be a lot of work but, in my experience, they are so worth it. Whether you love cats or dogs or birds or hamsters there is always the inevitable truth that everything makes waste that needs to be taken care of. And no matter what kind of creature you have that equals time to do the work to keep things clean. And when the health of your pet is concerned there is no room to cut corners or skip out on your responsibilities.
There are robotic litter boxes which make things easier but they still have to be cleaned every week or so or things get nasty quick. You know the drill you get bust out the pet friendly spray cleaner and get in there. For a normal litter box I just go out back with the water hose every month or so but in those fancier robots with electronics you have to roll up your sleeves and get in there so that you don’t damage anything. Since there’s no magic button to clean out the litter box we cat lovers are just going to have to take care of business ourselves.
But what if there was a magic button to order a cardboard box filled with litter that you toss, in its entirety once used up? No scrubbing litter boxes or robots or any of that business. Sounds pretty good doesn’t it? Filled with Tidy Cats LightWeight 24/7 Performance clumping litter, you can order these almost magical boxes from Tidy Cats direct to be delivered monthly straight to your door. How cool is that? Let’s have Mr. Rob, and his cat assistant Maybelline, show you how this business works.
You go online and get setup for delivery. Like magic the delivery man drops your box on the porch.
It’s filled with lightweight litter so it’s super easy to tote around.
With the flap to open facing upward, pull the strip to open the box.
Pry loose the cardboard lid.
Fold it back and bend the crease in the middle of the lid.
Fold the lid under so that the box rest on top of it and stays open. This is super convenient because once the litter is dirtied you pull that lid up and over to keep everything together as it’s tossed in the trash.
Allow the cats to get used to the change in litter box and before long, you’re in business.

And since we’ve got a bit of time to be lazy now that we’re not scrubbing cat boxes all of the time (remember you need one litter box for each cat plus one more so the more cats you have the more scrubbing time I just saved you :) we can make something to be lazy in. Well, for the kitties, at least.
I’ve noticed a distinct pattern where my cats enjoy sleeping in any kind of basket but especially the basket of clean laundry. I don’t know how many bath towels I have that are furrier than they should be and we need to remedy that!
We’re going to make baskets that the kitties can claim as their own and we’re going to make them pretty so that you can position them thoughout your house so you don’t feel like your home is nothing but a cat sanctuary. If you’ve ever had one of those gigantic carpet covered cat trees you know exactly what I’m talking about. In a smaller home all of the things that make kitty’s life happy can quickly take over. These lovely little baskets will just sit off to the side keeping your felines in good company with your decor.
Now whether or not you can get your cats to use them is a different story. Cats are notorious for being jerks sometimes :) which is why I have pictures of cats near their baskets but not in them.
They can’t show me the satisfaction… yet.
Not initially what I had in mind for my project, I couldn’t find the proper baskets for it. But I did run into these laundry baskets at Michael’s marked for $10 but sold half off. Great, right?
If your home is colorful, like mine, you might want to give your baskets quick coat of color. When choosing a paint be sure to keep kitty’s health in mind. With a little bit of research you can find non-toxic and environmentally friendly paints perfect for use in a project like this.
Once you’ve located your paint, tint up your baskets and allow to dry fully. Take note that if you don’t have a paint sprayer and use a brush it takes a while to get that paint into all of the nooks and crannies.
Place something soft and cuddly in your baskets to encourage kitty to hop in and take a nap. Faux fur materials are my cats’ fave so I have some fake shearling that made the perfect little bed. Trimmed to fit and placed inside each basket was placed in the favorite resting spot of the kitty it was made for.
And one of these days, when I least expect it, they’re going to actually use them :)
But at least I had the extra time to get crafty and laze about a bit because of my Purina Tidy Cats Direct Disposable Pre-Filled Litter Boxes and when my cats quit being difficult they can laze about too, in total and utter style!
