I’d been in a healthy place for a long time when my medications got switched up and I suddenly needed 2 sizes bigger clothes. Erm, what they hey? When I talked to my sister about it she asked what I was taking and gave me an “oh, you should have been changed out over a few weeks and that medicine is notorious for weight gain.” And so I just. kept. gaining. weight.
My Rob and I were exercising like crazy, I even went to the gym (ugh) but still the weight came on. It was terribly frustrating. It’s taken a while but thankfully I’m back on track, huzzah! But this weight I put on isn’t magically going to disappear (I wish, right?) so I’m doing my best to eat better. One of my fave things to munch on since I was little are baby carrots and dip. I swear, there is something so perfect about the combination and when the carrots crunch in between my teeth I am totally and completely satisfied. A little bit sweet, when paired with a savory dip I truly am in snacking heaven. While carrots in and of themselves are quite healthy the dip normally isn’t. Like, at all. So I was pretty stoked when I saw Chobani Meze Dips sitting among all of the other dips at my local grocery store. With flavors Roasted Red Pepper, Three Pepper Salsa, Chili Lime and Smoked Onion and Parmesan that are made from all natural, non-GMO ingredients you can quickly grab a blend of herbs, spices and veggies blended into creamy Greek Yogurt just perfect for savory snacking.
Oh, and back to that trying to lose weight thing, again, it’s also better for you than, say, traditional hummus with 80% less fat and 65% less calories. And since I’m actively trying to eat better so that I can lose this weight that is a huge boon for me that keeps my afternoon snack time from being terribly boring.
Since Labor Day is coming up and I had grabbed some Smoked Onion and Parmesan Meze Dip in Houston to share with my family I thought it might also be nice to knock out some patriotic, Red, White and Blue appetizer plates perfect for the upcoming Labor Day holiday. Now this can be done with ANY color scheme to match any holiday. Isn’t that nifty? And it’s super inexpensive, too. With clear glass plates and bowls costing a buck or so you can literally make an entire set for your celebration buffet table without breaking the bank. Let’s get to it, shall we? For this project you will need:
- Glass dishware
- Oil based paint markers
- Dishwasher safe sealer
A buck apiece at the good ol’ dollar store this blank slate is just begging for some red, white and blue, don’t you agree? Using dots, dashes, x shapes and anything simple and easily drawn create a pattern using your paint markers on the BACK side of your plates. I love this kind of doodling because it’s super accessible for all crafters. Even if you have a difficult drawing a straight line, the results of repeated simple shapes is stunning! Fill in the entire back side of the plate and allow the paint to fully dry. Brush on dishwasher safe sealer to help keep the paint on the dishes for ages to come. Dishwasher safe Mod Podge is a great option. To preserve your work even further, hand washing is recommended. (I know, I know, but it says right there in the name DISHWASHER SAFE and it is but all things DIY wear out over time). Snag this coupon to save some cash and head out to Target, Meijer or Walmart to get out your favorite flavors of Meze and some veggies and you’re all set for healthy snacking your guests will love! Set out your treats on your new plates and feel imminently proud. This holiday celebration feeding people thing is a breeze :)
