Two of my favorite ingredients to cook with in the fall are fresh oranges and rosemary, but I never thought to try them in a cocktail. One sip and I was instantly reminded of changing leaves, a houseful of friends, and a twenty pound turkey in the oven! The sweet citrusy flavor from a fresh squeezed orange perfectly compliments the robust aromatic rosemary in this bubbly libation!
(makes 1 cocktail)
Rosemary Simple Syrup:
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1-2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
Juice from 1 orange
1/2 oz of rosemary simple syrup
Combine water and sugar in a small saucepan over high heat. Bring mix to a boil and then remove from heat. Add 1-2 sprigs of fresh rosemary and let mixture steep until cool. Remove rosemary sprigs and transfer to a small canning jar or other sealing container. Store in the refrigerator until ready to use.
In a cocktail shaker combine fresh orange juice, vodka, and rosemary simple syrup. Add a handful of ice and shake well. Strain into a glass, top with club soda, garnish, and serve.
