Want to make a recycled construction paper Earth? Check out this week’s post at Mom Spark!
I seriously cannot remember if Earth Day was a big thing when I was a kid or not. I mean, it was the 80’s and 90’s and I would think that we realized we needed to be better to the Earth back then but I don’t know if we actually did or not… I do remember being taught things about how letting the water run while you brush your teeth is wasteful but that was something I first learned from my grandparents. That and recycling. Mimmie would let me go around the dry cleaners and find cans and I’d beg them off of the women that worked for her. Later my Poppa and I would go all over creation collecting tin and we’d throw our finds in the back of his Dodge “goat truck” (the ram on the front looked like a goat to me :) to take to the recycling center. I don’t know if we really always made enough to go play miniature golf and pool but we always did go play mini golf and pool with our earnings. I bet Poppa had to kick some money in every once in a while but it made me feel good, like I was treating him with my hard work :)
I don’t really know that they taught me about running water and recycling as far as a standpoint of it being better for the Earth but as it just plain being the right things to do. I must admit that I have a much larger carbon footprint than I would like these days but Rob and I are working to make that better.
I love that nowadays kids are taught straight from the get go that we have to take better care of our world. And though some people still don’t see the point, I think when our current generation of kids become adults things will be much better for Earth because they will have known their whole lives that it needs to be taken care of.
So today I’m sharing a project that you can use up all of those old supplies laying around… scraps of construction paper seem to multiply for me, and for lots of people with crafty kiddos so this should be a fairly simple project that can use those scraps for something good! Oh, and this Earth looks pretty awesome… awesome enough that it could totally be hung on the wall :) So head on over to Mom Spark to see how to make your own recycled construction paper Earth project.
