I’ve been so lucky to be able to be successfully self employed for over a decade now. In all honesty, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to a traditional 9-5 working for the man kind of a gig. It’s too nice being able to travel to see my family at the drop of a hat, and I always hated that call to beg sick leave when feeling poorly. But being self employed also means that I’ll spend days where I take to my computer before it’s light outside and don’t step away for longer than it takes to eat or run to the bathroom until almost midnight to make a tight deadline. It’s a balancing act but it’s one that I’m super happy to do.
These days I make a comfortable living, but I remember how financially difficult the beginning was. And sometimes I worry about falling back into that. What happens if people stop reading blogs? How about if crafting becomes passé? With these kinds of financial fears always in the back of my mind, I often find it difficult to treat myself every now and again.
And this is why I totally love sales. It’s so much easier to buy something when you know how good of a deal you’re getting. This is also why I love getting gift cards as gifts. I have this much money that I can use for ANYTHING that store has to offer, and I don’t have to worry about budgeting in my spending. I feel far less guilty buying a pair of shoes I really want, but totally don’t necessarily need when I’m using a gift card to do it.
So when I heard about Raise I realized that I could have the easily budgetable expense of a prepaid gift card that I pay less than its actual value. This means I’m always getting my stuff on sale. But wait, I’ve gotten ahead of myself, what exactly is Raise?
Raise is an app for Apple or Android where you can purchase discounted gift cards. You can scroll through the list and see what gift cards are going for the best discount and snatch up ones for your favorite stores. There are some seriously good deals to be found! Each card has a 1 year money back guarantee and you can store them in the “wallet” within the app instead of keeping a stack of plastic in your physical wallet. Access your gift cards in this virtual wallet to make purchases both online and, sometimes, even in brick and mortar stores. (check to be sure before purchasing that you can use it in store, online, or both if needed)
Now… here’s my recent experience. I’ve started to dress more modestly and the shorts in my dresser drawer suddenly seem WAY TOO SHORT. So I run into one of my favorite stores and try on some shorts and fall in love with a style that they don’t have in my size. I come home, find that they are in stock online AND they’re on sale for cheaper on the website than in the store. Super cool, right?
Before I place my order I head into Raise and I look and find that I can purchase a $25 gift card for $21.68 or a $100 gift card for $85.70. That’s 13.3 and 14.3% off, respectively. In the store I was about to pay $22.94 for these shorts but online they are $15.00 on sale PLUS I wait for a flash 30% off kind of a thing and suddenly these guys are only $10.50. But don’t forget I’m also getting that 13.3% off from the $25 card I snagged. In the end I pay $9.10 for these shorts due to some smart shopping and using a Raise gift card to make the purchase. And I was totally prepared to spend $22.94 for them when I found them in the store. I am NOT a coupon shopper but dang, right? BOOM! I just saled the living daylights out of those togs!
Seriously, guys. I love it. I am loving Raise so, so much and I think that if you’re the type that frets over money to the point that you find yourself shying away from the occasional treat, I’ve gotta say, you’re so going to love this app. Budget in a little bit of fun money, purchase some cards on a discount to your favorite stores (or restaurants, hey!) and when you find the perfect treat, you’re all set. Download this fab app and treat yourself! Raise iOS app or Raise Android app.
