Whenever I have the boys it seems like they are always hungry. ALWAYS HUNGRY. I remember one time when Conner was very small he proclaimed that he needed a footlong cheese coney and a medium order of tater tots. Now the kid was maybe 7 and tall and skinny like a bean pole. I figured he could eat what he wanted and we could save the rest for later. But it turned out there was no “rest”. Kid demolished that hot dog! Clean took it out! And that’s when I realized… children will clean eat you out of house and home!
Every few days we’d head back to the grocery store because there would be absolutely no fresh fruit left in the house and most of the snack foods would be decimated. Some days I’d get so busy with work and a crazy deadline that I’d just throw something together for them to eat and slap it on the table to run back to my computer. And I doubt that they were getting much protein and I know that growing kids need that.
So in preparation of them maybe, possibly, fingers crossed HOPEFULLY coming to visit me in my new home I’ve started working up ideas for everything… where we’re going to go and what we’re going to do (HELLO Turtle Rescue on South Padre and organic yogurt shop!) And since right now I am working a TON, Rob and I are even working up quick meals that are good for them and full of protein.
Our first menu utilizes quickly microwaved proteins that we can quickly and easily doctor up to be something special. And after we heard about a special promotion where if we purchased 2 participating Tyson®, Ball Park®, State Fair®, or Jimmy Dean® products at Walmart and then snapped a picture of our receipt we’d get a movie ticket to see the new flick Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows hitting the theaters on June 3rd. How cool is that? A free movie ticket is nothing to sneeze at!
So we perused the aisles and came home with Ball Park® Flame Grilled Patties and Tyson® Chicken Nuggets. The plan? Pizza burgers and buffalo nuggets, straight up inspired by TMNT and their epic love of pizza! Want to know how quick and easy this is?
You won’t even believe how easy this quick recipe is! It’s the perfect complement to anything pizza!
- Tyson® Chicken Nuggets
- Choice of buffalo sauce
- Ranch or blue cheese dressing (optional)
- Veggies – carrots or celery (optional)
- Heat your nuggets on a microwave safe place according to package directions.
- Allow to cool a few minutes and then toss in your favorite buffalo sauce or other nugget sauce like BBQ or sweet & sour.
- Serve with dressing, if desired and fresh veggies.
Hang tight to any leftover spaghetti sauce. It can be stored right in the original jar it came in and it’s the perfect way to spice up a quick burger!
- Ball Park® Flame Grilled Patties
- shredded mozzarella cheese
- spaghetti or pizza sauce
- favorite pizza toppings (e.g. pepperoni, bell peppers, etc.)
- hamburger buns
- Microwave patties according to package directions on a microwave safe plate.
- Place patty on a bun and top with spaghetti sauce, cheese and pizza toppings.
- Heat in the microwave just long enough for the cheese to begin to melt.
Now because our burgers and nuggets are from the freezer aisle this means they will keep for quite a while, not that they’ll last long with two growing boys in the house! I’ll be providing a quick, simple snack or meal that I know is full of the protein they need. And I’ll be able to run back to my computer or camera or whatever the case may be so that I can keep earning the money that will help us do all of the fun things we want to do this summer. I don’t know if you know, but fro-yo doesn’t grow on trees! :)
