My Package Pal – A Whisketeer!
Very recently I signed up for a fun little pen pal type of thing over at C.R.A.F.T and I was so, so excited. The gist is this: you sign up to receive a crafty package from someone somewhere on the globe and you send a crafty package to them. In fact, this is a pretty frequent occurrence over at C.R.A.F.T so keep your eyes peeled for the next sign up in a few months.
Since I LOVE getting stuff in the mail, just like a big ol’ kid, I knew that I wanted to do this. I clicked the little box that someone outside of the US was cool because that seemed exotic and even more exciting! A bit later I was contacted with my info. My package pal was Alice, a blogger over at Whisketeers (she’s totally a cat lady, too – how perfect is that?!) Head on over to check out her blog to see some killer roundups and lists, pretty photos (including of kitties!) and some totally delectable recipes.
We quickly set out emailing one another to find out our favorites and whatnot so that we could have a killer swap! The big thing that I got from our conversations was that in Slovenia it is hard to come by baker’s twine and washi tape. So guess what? I ordered some up to send on over to Slovenia! But that just didn’t seem like enough so I busted out some of my favorite fabric from my stash and ran out to get some matching yarn. I modified my crochet eyeglass case pouch to be the size of a clutch and got to work. Instead of just sending over a handful of things, I sent them stuffed in a homemade purse!
Because our postal systems don’t always jive as quickly as we’d hope and I encountered some issues… the lady I bought the washi tape from wanted about $60 to send it directly to Alice – WHAT?! Since she wanted only $2.50 to send it to me state side that is the route I went but it added some extra days of delay. Since I was on my way out of town on vacation I had it sent there instead of my home which wouldn’t have done me any good.
Unfortunatley I didn’t think to get pics of the tape and twine but I did get some fantastic pics of Alice’s new bag! To see what she sent me, click here! To make your own bag like this, use the crochet eyeglasses case as a guide but make that sucker bigger!
Think you’ll try to catch the next swap? I know that I will every time because I loved it so much! And be sure to check out Alice’s page Whisketeers and leave an encouraging note if you’re so inclined. :)
