Make your own wax melts in any fragrance and strength you choose. Fun bonus, you can make them any color you choose, too! Perfect for a wonderfully fragrant home!

I have this constant fear that my house smells badly. Since I work from home I’m always around any smells in the home and I quickly acclimate to those odors, be they good or bad. It doesn’t take long before I simply don’t notice them until I’ve left to, say, go to the grocery store and come back. Have you done that? Left and come back wondering just how long has that garbage disposal been gross enough to produce a smell like that?!? :)

It might have to do with the fact that I have this crazy sensitive sense of smell. Say I go to the house of a smoker or somebody who works with something with a really strong odor and I get in there and I’m all, oh my gosh, this is too much! My head hurts! Fast forward when I go back to my own home and suddenly that smell will jump up out of my clothes and pretty much punch me in the face. Because slowly but surely, since I was immersed in it, I got used to it and forgot all about it.

And then back home I worry about the smells that linger around my own house that I’m used to but might cause offense to foreign noses. After all, when you have pets there are always going to be some funky things that happen in your house that will equal funky smells. That’s just a fact, Jack.

So I do the things I can do to try and make things olfactorily better. I remove canned food the moment the bowl is abandoned, I clean out the litter box multiple times a day and I wash the pet bedding at least once a week. Out of all of those things, the litter box most definitely has the biggest chance of reeking up the house and so it gets the most attention hence the multiple cleans. But you can clean out a box over and over again but if you use sub-par cat litter you’re going to end up with a stinky situation no matter what.

Make your own wax melts in any fragrance and strength you choose. Fun bonus, you can make them any color you choose, too! Perfect for a wonderfully fragrant home!

That is why I have been a long-time fan of Tidy Cats. It’s the good stuff and that means the smelliest of my funky home worries doesn’t have to be worried over quite so much.  And now it’s gotten even better because you can get Tidy Cats LightWeight with Ammonia Blocker to help keep that awful, sharp smell every cat owner knows all too well at bay. Yuck. When used correctly (think cleaning out the box when you should and all of that) the Ammonia Blocking technology works for two whole weeks. TWO WHOLE WEEKS? I’ll take it.

I love this litter because ammonia blocking aside it also clumps like a champ, it’s not at all dusty, smells good (not overpowering fake floral scent or anything) and it’s amazing how much easier the lighter litter is to scoop in general. Tidy Cats Lightweight for the win! Ooh, and get a coupon to save some $$$ and try out the good stuff here!

Okay, so I’ve got the good litter which helps keep kitty funk to a minimum but I’m still going to worry about pet smells in general. And there are tons of things I can, and often do, but most commonly to keep things smelling better than just okay I like to use seasonal scents. You know, beachy things for summer and spicy things for fall… that sort of a thing. And since I am a cat lady I haven’t had candles for years and years and years. So when wax melts started to get popular I got stoked. You get all of the great scent of a candle but without having to worry about burned whiskers (and houses)? That sounds fabulous, right? And since I DIY all of the things I made my own. Want to learn how?

For this project you will need:

Make your own wax melts in any fragrance and strength you choose. Fun bonus, you can make them any color you choose, too! Perfect for a wonderfully fragrant home!

To get started you can always purchase a wax melt making set online or at your brick and mortar craft store. This is an economical way to get everything you need including the reusable plastic containers. Should you decide to piecemeal it, you can purchase items in the list above as needed. You can also re-purpose containers containing store-bought wax melts you have used up.

To get started you’ll need to melt soy wax flakes. I have found that using little 5 ounce glass yogurt jars filled 3/4 – to completely full yields a really good amount of wax to fill the melt containers.

Make your own wax melts in any fragrance and strength you choose. Fun bonus, you can make them any color you choose, too! Perfect for a wonderfully fragrant home!

Place the wax in whatever microwave safe item you choose in 15-30 second increments until mostly melted. A small amount of flakes that haven’t melted isn’t a problem. Simply stir and the hot, melted wax will finish up making the wax perfectly smooth and melted without worries of overheating.

Add your favorite candle colorant and fragrance or essential oils once the wax has had a little bit of time to cool. If adding oils to very, very hot wax you’ll lose a significant amount of scent from the heat which wastes money in the end.

Give the wax a little bit of time to cool further taking care that it is still liquid enough to be pour-able and fill your plastic wax molds/holders. Should you pour in very hot wax, you could warp and permanently damage the form, so take care that it’s not too hot.

Allow the wax to sit, at least overnight, to fully harden.

Pop a melt out and place in a wax burner to help spread a lovely aroma to help keep any slight “pets so totally live here odors” covered!

Trust me as a crafty cat lady the dynamic duo of prevention (Tidy Cats with Ammonia Blocker) and concealment (smell good wax melts) will keep your help smelling fresh to the point you might surprise guests that you have pets at all!

Love this idea of making your own scented wax! My favorite cat would have to be Garfield since I can’t spend too much time with them 😢🤧. But I would definitely purchase some litter or accessories to donate to our local shelter if I won!! 🤗

I have honestly always loved Grumpy Cat. I saw him at South by Southwest a few years ago and she is so cute! Much smaller than I thought she would be. <3

PS I don’t have a kitty of my own :( but my BFF’s cat Barley is so cute, so I’d probably buy her a few treats/toys and then get some treats for my dogs. She could definitely use the litter too!

There are several great kitties in my life -JouJou, Maybe, and Marla. But our grandcat Sasha lives right around the corner so I get to see her often and get to cat sit for her when her folks go out of town. She is very affectionate, smart and funny. I would stock up on kitty litter and see what else might make her home sweet smelling and clean. And she likes treats, so I would look for some new natural fish treats for her.

My Choco cat is the bestest most handsome cat man. He LOVES to curl up on me during the winter, flops down on his back so I can scratch his belly (I know right!?) and is a VERY talkative little guy. He is getting older (and wiser!…well…) so I would LOVE to get him an orthopedic heated bed, automatic cat litter box and some food that will help him retain his youthful glow in his old age.

I have had many kitties throughout my adult life; Venus, she was a large grey and white tabby. She was a worn out mamma kitty with her left paw missing. She has a special place in my heart. then Athena, Serena and Misty. Misty was beautiful she was a tabby as well, but she only had stripes on her tail. Her base color was a medium grey her belly was orange with front white paws on the tips of her grey hair was white, orange and black. She was so sweet! I liked cuddling with her. Also a Princess kitty. My daughter’s kitten. My son’s cat all black except the white on his chest. My son named him Grant after Grant Hill. Now I have Clairance who is who is a big cat with long white hair. He is very smart and knows what he wants, the time he wants it. He tells me when his tidy box is dirty and lets me know when it’s time for bed. I have loved all my kitty cats, but Clairence has a very large special place in my heart. he is 14yrs. old A great warm Kitty. I forsure would get him a huge multi level cat stand if I won.

My favorite kitty would have to be my cousins cat named Roo. She named her Roo because she planned to get another cat and name it Kanga so together they would be Kanga & Roo. Roo is a very loving cat with black and white spots which remind me of my dog penny. Unfortunately i’m allergic to cats, however i always take allergy pills to see Roo. Roo is worth it because she is too cute. Every time i get to see Roo I sing her soft kitty because she indeed is a soft kitty.

Cats are my most favorite animals. Back then I had my own cat but her breed wasn’t my favorite. I found out my most favorite cat has to be the sphynx cats. They are goofy looking cats but I like how unique they look.

Although most of my favorite cats are celebrity cats such as Smoothie the cat and Milkshake the cat, no cat can ever compare to my own. His name is Oreo and he is a black cat who was gifted to me by my best friend when he was a little baby. He loves to play with curtains, watch tv,and eat. I would stock up on cat food and kitty litter to make her home smell nice.

I have had several kitties in my life, from the “Tommy” cats my dad used to rescue (when he “said” he hated cats!), to my Oliver, an orange and white tabby/Siamese mix, who was 15 pounds of pure love. Now I have Harley, a tuxedo we rescued from the shelter. His pipes were so loud when we adopted him, we thought the name appropriate! Loves to curl up around my neck and keep me warm and loves to talk at 5:00 in the morning because he’s hungry! I would definitely stock up on food, treats and toys!

My favorite cat is my cat, of course! I found him injured (had been in some type of fight with puncture wounds and bloody) as a little kitten while out walking in my neighborhood and immediately scooped him up and took him to the vet. The bill was crazy and he was filled with parasites – lung worm, hook worm, etc.. which took a few visits to treat but thankfully was FIV negative. I kept him and he has turned out to be such a loving, calm, cuddle bug of a cat. I am so happy that I rescued him. He definitely deserved it and we gained a great family member.

I would love to get a nicer, newer litter mat that actually does a good job of tracking litter. I’d also like to get one of those enclosed litter boxes – I just need to train my guy to use it! It would keep the litter being thrown out of the box down and prob. contain smells better.

Totally going to give making my own wax melts a go! They look so cheery! My hands down FAVORITE kitty is my cat Fuzzy Wuzzy. He’s a four year old tabby who loves and entertains me daily with his spunky personality and playfulness! He also tries to jump on and ride the chickens in the yard which is also hilariously entertaining!

*Bonus entry* – I have been eying this felt cat cave bed for him as well as this spectacular drinking fountain that I think he would go absolutely wild for. I would also stock up on the probiotics I currently give him and some catnip toys and maybe a new cat coffee mug for me :)

    Cheers! xx

If my cats were people, imagine Jennifer Lawrence as one cat then imagine Queen Mary Tudor as another. (History nerds will understand.)

Poe is a black bob tail that probably was a bit feral. With pound rescue kitties you never really know. When Poe wants attention it makes you feel as if you won the lottery. Not the big time bucks just the little wow I won $20. But it feels pretty great.

Now there’s my girl Addie. A beautiful white fluffy cat, If you’re not really a cat person, that will change. She will make one out of you.

My girls are as different as night and day but I love that about them.

A few extra dollars to spend on them? Well they are already treated like royalty so I guess I’d ask them what they want. They always like a new colorful toy. Maybe some extra treats to show them how much I love them. How about getting more litter boxes?

    Who knows, let’s go crazy.

I currently have 5 cats. I love them all, I really do but my little Bear is the closest to my heart. We found her at only a few days old and she’s the first cat I’ve ever bottle-raised.

  • Tina W

    September 14, 2017 at 1:42 AM

And if I had extra cash to drop on my kitties I would add a series of shelves and ramps so they could maneuver around the house at a higher elevation. They are all feral rescues and quite skittish so maybe being up higher may make them more comfortable around people.

My favorite kitty is Bossy. Bossy is a strong old dude. Hes brought home many presents for us – lizards, snakes, squirrels, a bat (!), and a rabbit. Yes, a rabbit. He’s a tough and grumpy old soul, but you can always find him in “his spot” at night, curled up next to me. My entire family acknowledges I’m his favorite.
Bossy is getting older, He now struggles to jump onto my bed. Perhaps he is experiencing arthritis. I would spend money to first take him to our vet for a good in-depth assessment to see if anything can be done to make him more comfortable. I would then purchase for him a heating pad to keep on @his spot.”
Thank you for sponsoring this, Tidy Cat!!♥️😻

We (as in me and my family) rescue dogs and cats and we do this with our own money NO tax exempt number, no vouchers all with our money and it gets so expensive to pay for food, vet bills, grooming, and all the extras needed such as litter, litter boxes, toys and treats so this would be an AMAZING help to us. We currently have 13 ALL rescue cats that we kept from going to the humane society (where most likely they would have been put down) due to over populated centers here in the RGV. So thank you for the chance and amazing opportunity to enter and I’m loving your blog ❤️ Thank you as well to Tidy Cats 🐱 our litter of choice as well for multiple cats…meow lol

First let me say thank you for providing this opportunity as I know a worthy person will earn it. As for me I would be blessed if I was selected because I am not only a cat lover but a rescuer. I had been fortunate to have been able to provide a temporary home for over 25 cats that we then found permanent homes for. Plus the 13 cats we have living with us permanently. Folks might say they are lucky I do that but in reality I’m lucky to have them.
