One thing was missing to complete our Christmas tree : a nice tree skirt. The past years, I warped a piece of fabric but with the kids playing around the tree it never last very long. So here is a very simple way to make a nice tree skirt, you don’t even need a sewing machine. I choose the classic Christmas colors, but feel free to pick some how match your decor.
Materials & Tools:
- 3 yards of felt (1 yard of each color)
- 2 yards of gold ribbon
- scissors
- fabric pencil
- glue gun
- a plastic cup
Grab the yard of fabric you want to use for the outside of the tree skirt. Fold the piece in four and draw a quarter circle on it. Use a plastic cup to draw the scallop pattern following the circle line.
Cut the fabric following your drawing. You can put some pins trough the fabric to keep it from moving when you cut. Cut of a quarter circle from the tip.
Repeat the same process for the other colors. You just need to work with smaller circles. For the second color, the green, start working with a 2.5ft. x 2.5ft. square. And for the third color, the red, you will need a 2ft. x 2ft. square.
When the three circles are done, place them on top of each other and glue them together with a glue gun. Then cut one side to be able to pass the skirt around the tree.
Make a few notches on both side of the cut. You can use your scissors tip or a cutter, just be sure to cut trough the three fabric layers.
Put the skirt around your Christmas tree and finish by tying the ribbon, passing it in the little holes you made. Make a nice knot to finish. And you are done! Enjoy your Christmas tree. If you are looking for more simple Christmas tree crafts, have a look at what I did with some glitter foamy.
