We all have tissue boxes around the house. They are useful, especially during winter time. Even if some brand provide nice patterned boxes, in general them design are quite ugly. To give a nice and funny twist to a boring tissue box, I’m gonna show you how to make a cute cat cover box.

Materials and tools:

  • cardboard 2mm thick
  • nice color paper
  • Kraft tape
  • white glue
  • scissors
  • utility knife
  • wire

First step, make the top of the cover box. Take the cardboard and cut a rectangle 1/2 inch bigger than the top side of the tissue box. In the center, cut out a small rectangle to be able to grab the tissues.

Cut the 4 sides for your cover box in the cardboard. The high is the same as the tissue box. The width must be 1/2 inch bigger than the tissue box sides.

Assemble the 5 pieces together to make your box cover. Put a little white glue on the edge of each piece and strengthens the gluing with kraft tape. Some tips if you had never use this kind of tape: you need to put some water on a sponge, and passe the tape on it to moisten the adhesive. It’s easier if you precut your kraft tape pieces at the edges dimensions before moisturize them. To have a strength box, put kraft tape on all the edges, outside and inside. One your box is done, I will suggest you to slide your cover box on the tissue box, to be sure it fits and that the dimensions are corrects.

Time to cover the box. Pick some nice paper for the cat body. I used brown skivertex paper, who has a nice faux leather finish.

Cut a piece of paper 2 inches bigger than the top side, and glue it on it. Trim the paper angles, fold and glue the edges on the box sides.

Use the utility knife to cut the opening in the paper. Fold and glue the paper inwards the box.

To cover the box sides, cut a long rectangle in the paper, wrap it and glue it on the box. The paper must be 1 inch higher than the box side, that way you will be able to fold and glue it inward the box for a nice finish. You can work with several paper pieces if it’s easier.

The cover box is almost finish. Let’s make the cute cat details.

  • Cut two triangles (2 inches width x 3 inches high) to make the cat ears, and 2 smaller ones to make the inside of the ear.
  • Make 2 S shape for the cat tail.
  • Cut 2 wire pieces of 4 inches each to make the whiskers
  • Fold the wire to make two small arch for the eyes
  • Cut a small red triangle for the nose

Glue the 2 ear parts together. Makes a small cut in the base of the ear. Fold the ear and glue in on the box.

Glue the eyes, nose and whiskers on one small side of the box. No worries if the glue overflows, it will become transparent as it dries. Glue the 2 S shape on top of each other and fold the base. Glue the tail on the opposite side of the box.
