Guten Tag from Berlin! I’m Sheri, the quirky world travelling creator behind Confessions of a Refashionista. I am absolutely thrilled to join the ranks of the Dream a Little Bigger DIY divas and hope to inspire others to step away from unethically produced fast fashion & decor and embrace the wonderful world of refashioning & fabulous thrifted style!
Let’s get started with a fab refashion to welcome autumn: my comfy cozy DIY poncho!
Grab a groovy vintage table cloth & an old turtle neck sweater (my tablecloth measured 140cm x 120cm)
fold the table cloth in half, then in half again and lay it on a flat surface
chop off the double folded corner in a semi-circle shape, this will be your poncho neckline (you could measure the width of your turtleneck, do some math & work out the exact amount to slice off but I simply eyeball it & cut off a few centimeters less than I think I should as I can always re-fold & chop off more if needed)
Open up the tablecloth et voila! A lovely centered neckline – pop it over your head to check the fit.
Snag that old sweater & slice off the turtleneck
pop it into your tablecloth neckline with the wrong side of the turtleneck facing the right side of the tablecloth (this will ensure that when worn the turtleneck will fold down with the correct side facing out)
Stitch ’em together
zig zag over the outside seam for extra strength and to help prevent fraying
and your groovy new poncho is ready for action!
Three fabulous new-to-you garments refashioned from one turtleneck sweater! The projects are so quick you can make them all on a relaxing day off: Start with the funky poncho, then move on to the snuggly cowl sweater and finish up with the groovy maxidress!
