Glittered Switch Plates Tutorial

I like making over my outlet covers for one simple reason. Each one costs less than fifty cents apiece making it incredibly affordable to fancy up a room. Plus, it’s not a total heartbreaker to toss out whenever you’re no longer digging that fancy.

Since I have a hard time locating the light in my office/craft room I knew just what needed to happen. I need glitter, stat! And guess what, I’m totally digging my glitter switch plates!

For this project you will need:

  • Mod Podge
  • glitter (I used Martha Stewart because it’s really fine)
  • paintbrush
  • outlet cover

Brush your outlet cover with a small amount of Mod Podge.

Sprinkle on a whole smattering of glitter and allow to dry before picking it up (this is SOOO hard, I know but be patient!)

When dry shake the excess glitter off onto a piece of paper. If needed go over with another coat of Mod Podge and another layer of glitter.

When you’re happy with the coverage, brush a coat of Mod Podge onto the top of the glitter and allow to dry for several hours, or overnight.

And that’s all she wrote! This new cover as two benefits. First of all there hardly needs to be any light for it to glint off of the glitter and let me know where my switch is (even the lights on my router and techno gadgets are enough). Plus, and this is something I didn’t even consider, the texture alone helps me to locate it quick-smart!

Will you be knocking out some glitter switch plates?
