So for Halloween I bought these Funkins. They’re pumpkins from Hobby Lobby that are fake that you can carve and your creation will never go bad! Which sounds freaking awesome. But for some reason that is just not the way things were going to go down for me with this stupid thing.
I tried cutting into this thing and it was like rock and broke the blade on my knife. Say what?! I wound up messing with it long enough to get so incredibly hacked off. Like really, really mad and that just ain’t my thing. I’m a happy girl.
So I tossed that sucker in the closet and was absolutely disgusted with it. Staring ant the partially cut up thing I decided I was going to make that thing worth the 15 bucks I paid for it. All of the sudden I was getting rage-y again. I had to do something with it to avoid future pissy episodes when seeing my no Funkin. And since I’m too cheap to just throw it away, I figured something else out!
For this project you will need:
- Rub ‘n Buff – I used Gold Leaf
- Fake florals
- Skewer and hammer or a drill
- Hot glue gun
You only need a tiny amount of this business at a time… Put a little onto your pumpkin and rub onto the surface.
To retain some of the color beneath, rub away the excess shortly after applying the Rub N Buff. If you want full on metallic, go over the surface as many times as necessary until the coverage is to your liking.
Next you’ll need to drive a skewer into the top of the pumpkin with a hammer to insert your fake florals. These are burlap poinsettias from WalMart. On a side note, I’m just now realizing that I totally smashed up two holidays without even knowing it. Maybe you can keep this around for Christmas then! :)
Unless you’ve lost your hammer, in which case grab that Q hook!!!
I really did use this but it wasn’t fun. Use a hammer if you can find it!
Trim your florals down to where they’ll nicely fit into the pumpkin and shove into the holes you have made.
After you’ve gone all the way around, take the leaves from the lower portion that you cut off and glue them to cover the stems of the florals inside of the pumpkin.
Any left over leaves keep on stems and toss into the center to make even fuller. FYI – this is two bunches of poinsettias. You might need a dab of hot glue inside to keep these stems in place so they won’t slide down.
And now my Funkin is pretty and I like it and doesn’t cause irrational irritation in me. Win!
