So you already know that I love glitter and rhinestones and the sometimes gaudy but you might not have known that I LOVE the feeling of clean teeth. The moment I run my tongue around my teeth after a cleaning is one of my top things in the entire world just behind that weird, burnt smell that happens the first time you turn the heater on for the year. Weird, I know but dang do I love that smell/feeling of my world cooling off into winter :)
I’ve always felt like I’ve been incredibly vigilant about my dental hygiene, though I must confess I go through phases of flossing which isn’t great. Afraid of the dentist I put off going for a decade. Yep, a decade. Basically every single year that I was a grown adult, living on my own I decided, “nope, not gonna do that business.” I only went to the dentist for the first time as an adult when I had something go wrong and I was in pain. Basically I waited until I HAD to.
My new dentist knowing how long it had been for me and understanding why told me that my good dental hygiene habits had one very well for me over the years and even though I felt silly for staying away so that made me so proud. I’ve used electric toothbrushes for ages, largely because I like that they make my teeth feel cleaner than a manual brush but I’ve never gone for anything more than the cheapest one I could grab at the drug store. But now that I’ve tried the NEW Philips Sonicare FlexCare I’m never, ever going back.
I must admit when I heard that there was a toothbrush that could tell me how I can do better when brushing my teeth I. Wanted. That. Business. I mean, how interesting is that? The future, man! It’s here! So let’s go over why I’m already in love with my new toothbrush…
This sucker has three settings for clean, whitening and a deep clean (that has this crazy pulsing and stuff that makes your gums feel ah-mazing). Oh, and it uses Bluetooth to connect to an app you download to your phone to show you what’s up while you’re brushing…
As you brush, following along with the app the teeth become white once you’ve sufficiently cleaned that area. Where the teeth are yellow is where you haven’t gotten to, yet. The lighter yellow shows where you didn’t do a very good job (like the bottom of my front teeth. I have a built in retainer there and I KNOW that I struggle with getting that area as clean as I should.
It also shows you when you’re moving the brush around too much or when you’re applying too much pressure. Now I have to admit that using this guy for the first time while I snapped pictures of the process wasn’t the brightest idea. I got toothpaste everywhere including on my phone, there! :) And for some reason I totally forgot that I can close my mouth while I brush my teeth and I kept thinking “I’m not going to keep my mouth hanging wide open for much longer, ouch!” Haha! But when it was all said and done my teeth felt so much cleaner than they normally after I brush them. It really was amazing to know how good I am (or am not) at brushing my teeth by showing me the spots I had missed.
The smarts on this thing go behind real-time brushing advice, it actually helps you to track and set your own daily goals. If you want whiter teeth, fresher breath or healthy gums you can set those as your goals which then tells your toothbrush how to coach you to help you achieve these things. It can also help you to focus on the areas, like my built-in retainer, that I already know I need to do a better job at but rarely think about as I zone out and brush my teeth.
Since my main goal is whiter teeth I decided to make a case for my phone that’s just as blinged out and shiny as my new smile is gonna be before long! Want to see how to make your own? This is a fab little project where the glitter doesn’t come off like crazy AND you don’t even have to seal it. Seriously! And you can use a soft case instead of a hard one, too.
For this project you will need:
- cell phone case
- Tacky Glue adhesive sheets
- very fine glitter
- craft knife with a brand new blade
I believe I paid $4 for this case. It’s a basic gel case.
In order to only use a single sheet of Tacky Glue adhesive sheets I cut one in half, work out what will work best with the sheets you have and the size/shape of your cell phone case. Using only a single sheet obviously won’t work if you have one of those ginormous phones that look like you’re pressing a small computer to the side of your head but since I’ve got an old school iPhone 5S mine is tiny by today’s standards :)
Remove one side of the protective paper and push onto the backside of your phone. Be sure to rub your fingers over the entire area to remove any air bubbles, especially on the edges.
Using a craft knife with a brand new blade, which is imperative for a nice, clean cut, trim away the excess paper and adhesive. Remember that the back side of the sheets where they aren’t touching anything will be sticky as the adhesive is there.
Be sure to trim away the adhesive over openings like your camera area. Don’t worry if it is absolutely perfect. Mine isn’t but it worked out well enough, in the end!
Peel away the backing paper carefully. Use the tip of your craft knife to help you catch the paper and peel it up if, like me, you have no fingernails to speak of.
I wound up having a strip where I didn’t get the adhesive so I placed another, small piece down on top of that area, overlapping to ensure the entire back is covered with adhesive. It’s so easy to do if you find that you’ve missed a spot, also.
Begin placing your rhinestones onto the case. Go with a pattern if you choose or go nuts. I’m always a fan of the going nuts option.
If you still don’t have any fingernails a great way to help pick up the rhinestones is to apply a glob of hot glue to the end of a skewer and allow it to cool. Simply touch the top of a rhinestone and it will stick to the glue. Once it hits the adhesive on the phone it will stick there making transferring these blingy things super quick and easy.
Fill the area to your heart’s content, just be sure to keep the area around the rhinestones clean so that you glitter will be able to adhere in the next step.
And in case you’re wondering of what my world looks like while I work, this is it. Hello Maybelline!
Using extra fine glitter, sprinkle the phone case. You want extra-fine glitter so that it sticks completely and doesn’t fall off later.
Shake the excess glue away with a few taps on a solid surface and you’re set. You don’t even have to seal the glitter to keep it on. Huzzah!
Now isn’t that a fantastic little phone case and a great reminder to bust out my Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum Connected Sonic Electric Toothbrush? And it’s just plain fun, too. I’m such a proponent of random fun that you don’t even know. Ooh, kitchen dance party!
