I love throw pillows. It’s, like, this crazy obsession that I have such a difficult time with. Rob caught a whiff of what I’m dealing with back during summer of last year. We were finishing up the work Daddy did on the house so I could put that sucker on the market after he broke his back (literally, ugh!) and we finally got around to staging the house.
Staging was the hardest part of this whole business for me. You see, I wanted to move down to Texas to be here with my Mr. Rob but I also didn’t want to leave home. I have a hard time with change, in general, and this was a doozy of a change that I was planning on making. And here I was setting up MY home with things that would “appeal to the masses” instead of what I liked.
During that last month Rob and I went to discount stores like Ross so frequently that they started to recognize me because my purse always triggered the alarms when I was both coming and going from the stores, but having been packed up it was the only one I still had out and I refused to buy another when I was running out of boxes to put things in. During those trips we bought a TON of throw pillows.
There are 13 pillows visible in these 2 pictures from 2 rooms out of the house. What you can’t see are the other pillows stashed in the bedroom closet and then in the little brick cubby of the fireplace, meant for firewood, another 4-5 pillows jammed in there looking all decorative. It was so bad that at one point we were in Ross and I was all, “look at these pillows” (the super pretty, down-filled, mostly white pillows on the sofas) and Rob was all “do you have any idea how much money we’ve spent on pillows this past month?” And he was right. We had spent a TON on throw pillows in just a few short weeks.
So when went to the bathroom I ran back and bought them :)
These days we are doing up our house since we’ve decided to live here another year. Rob renewed his contract for the year and we’re going to be re-upping our lease though I’d really, really like to move. Since we would just be renting again it makes more sense to just stay put. And I’ve decided that I’m going to make our living room wall CRAZY covered with STUFF. And stuff ain’t free. So there is no room in my decor budget for any more flippin’ throw pillows. Instead, I’m making them. I grabbed a few fat quarters from Walmart and got after it and I LOVE these pillows.
These were meant to be patriotic but it just so happens that they go PERFECTLY with our new steal of a deal IKEA chair we nabbed for $62 on clearance (regularly almost $300 and one of my DREAM pieces of furniture!) I filled them with an old down-alternative pillow from my bed (because I refuse to pay for Polyfil when I am constantly buying new bed pillows) and we all love them. They are so soft and so perfect!
But I’ve gotten long-winded here. I’ve got a book to finish writing and other irons in the fire so Imma send you on over to Mom Spark and be on my way. Check it out: How to make fat quarter pillows!
