Embroidery Basics – Getting Started
So I met a pretty nice lady in a waiting room who was admiring my embroidery. After some time she told me how she could embroider as a child but wouldn’t even know where to get started as an adult. And while I tried to explain to her the veritable wealth of information to be had on the internet to take up a new hobby, with past knowledge or not, I watched her eyes glaze over.
She explained that she had, in fact, tried to go online to find everything she needed to get back into embroidery but got tired of skipping from one post to the next. And so I asked what would be helpful in one place.
Flash forward to today and I took her advice and made a video with everything she insisted would be helpful. I’m going to walk you through what you need to have to get started, so that you can buy all of your supplies in a single go and then I’ll walk you through the back stitch. The back stitch is an embroidery stitch that is perfectly suited for most patterns as it is how you form lines. There are many, many patterns you can start stitching right away that require absolutely no other stitches!
Let me go ahead and share with you the shopping list here:
- Embroidery Hoop
- White broadcloth fabric
- Embroidery Needles
- Pinking Shears (optional)
- Thread Nippers
- Embroidery Floss
Now let’s get to this video, shall we? Now it’s not the best but I think I’m getting a bit better! Happy embroidering and be sure to ask any questions here in the comments so I can do the best to help you out!
