I’ve got keys all over, for the house, the car, my in-law’s house, padlocks keys…and some I don’t even remember whereof. So having some extra keychain, was a necessity! What better than make it fun and add a little color to the daily routine.
To make a fruit keychain, you will need:
- polimer clay
- Key ring
- small chain
- small rings
- pliers
Let’s start by making an orange. Take two pieces of clay and roll them into small balls, one for the fruit and the other for the leaf.
Squeeze the orange ball into your hands. Then use a toothpick to make the orange skin and to make a small hole on the top.
To make the leaf, squeeze the little ball between your fingers. Then pinch one end between your thumb and forefinger to make a little peak. Use the toothpick to make a hole into the leaf.
Here is the orange! Place both pieces in a container which is oven safe.
Start to same way for the apple as you did for the orange. Take two pieces of clay and roll them into small balls, one for the fruit and the other for the leaf. Squeeze the red ball into your hands and use a toothpick to make a notch in the top and the bottom. Make a small hole on the top of the apple.
To make the leaf, squeeze the little ball between your fingers. Then pinch both ends between your thumb and forefinger to make peaks. Use the toothpick to make a hole into the leaf. And your little apple is ready!
Let’s do a lemon! It’s the same process at the beginning. Once you have squeezed the yellow ball, pinch each end with your fingers to make the lemon shape.
Use a toothpick to make the lemon skin and a small hole on the top. I’m pretty sure you know how to make the leaf, yep….same way as the apple leaf!
The last fruit I made was a pear, but feel free to experiment more option. Grape fruits must be fun to do! Start with two balls, squeeze the light green one and pinch the top part to make the pear shape. Make the leaf and don’t forget to punch a little hole on both.
Place all your fruits and leaves on a oven safe container and bake. Follow the instruction on your clay packaging for details about temperature and cooking time. As example, I bake mine 30 minutes at a very low temperature. But it may vary, so better to follow the user manual.
Once it’s baked and cold, you can use transparent nail polish to varnish the fruits and leaves.
Using pliers, pass a small ring into the fruits and leaves.
Use a third ring to attach the fruit and the leaf together. Fix the chain and the key ring at the end of it! And that’s it! Polymer clay is always a lot of fun, you can check how I used it to make a marble bracelet.
