In more ways than I can count I’m a fairly simple person having been raised by fairly simple people. We never had the fancy around the table type of meals on holidays, but rather crammed into the living room. There would be plastic trays covering every square inch of carpet or the laps of those on sofas or chairs brought in. The would be TV blaring with football or something similar and all of us would be laughing and talking over the sound of the television.
There was this one time my parents took us to a fancy dinner party for a holiday, maybe Thanksgiving maybe Easter. There was a lace table cloth and lit candles and we were all totally uncomfortable. My sister and I kind of ran off to sit on the dock of our hosts’ pond with their gigantic Labrador. The whole time we were trying to keep from getting wrangled into the very dressy and very nerve-wracking party going on inside.
To this day, that’s the only fancy holiday I’ve been to and I’m totally cool with that. Give me everyone digging out of the center of the cake and fighting one another with spoons on the kitchen counter any day. But if you’re fancy where I’m not, perhaps you could use some new place mats for Thanksgiving? These faux leather place mats are unique and, I think, would make for great decor on your Thanksgiving table. Head on over to Mom Spark to check out this DIY Faux Leather Place Mats Tutorial.
