Do you remember the Sims games? Those ones where you created “people” on your computer screen and dictated their every move? They bought things with Simoleons and spoke Simlish. I loved that game. But maybe not for the reasons you’re thinking. I quickly grew tired of having to tell my Sim it was time to go to the bathroom. Queuing up all of those actions, like use toilet, wash hands, get mail, most boring was not a ton of fun for me.
So why did I love it? That’s pretty darn simple… I liked making the houses! On a grid I’d make charming, but affordable one bedroom homes with an office space and an eat in kitchen. I would have to play the game so my Sim could earn money so I could buy things. Much like life. But eventually I learned of the money cheat where you could get all of the Simoleons you could ever need! Then I would buy huge lots and spend a little time here and there for weeks making a house, choosing the carpets, buying a couch and going through all of the patterns to select the perfect one.
As a general rule, I like making things. That’s the whole reason for this site, really. And to be honest, if I had a choice between buying something as is or buying something I could totally customize, I’m going to go with the design it myself route every time! So when I heard of the Moto X, Motorola’s fully customizable smartphone I was freaking out. This is amazing.
So I headed on over to MotoMaker website to make my own phone. And, as you might have guessed made a gazillion different versions because you can. You can choose the color, the trim, the face, custom engraving and even the wallpaper for crying out loud. You can basically make the perfect phone for you that will be just as you want it when you get it in the mail!
The options are amazing and have a good deal of colors so you can knock out just about anything you please! Teal with red trim, go for it! Colorful wallpaper? They’ve got that ready for you, too!
At the MotoMaker website you’ll go from back, to front, to trim, to case, to memory to engraving.
Yup I said engraving! How neat is that? dream BIG
You can put your name in there or a short message. Since Dream a Little Bigger (quite a mouthful in all honesty) was too big I simplified with dream big!
And they even have a 3D viewing option of the phone you created that was so neat, I went and found a screen recorder just to show you :)
They even have genuine leather backs. I imagine this one I created is something my dad would love to be sporting around!
I especially like how you can make so many totally different looking phones (and check out that genuine wood back!). You can have something distinctly masculine or feminine, bright and colorful, dark and classic. You’ve seen how in playing on the site for about a half an hour how many completely different incarnations I was able to make from the Moto X.
- Okay, so I’m more about the looks that the insides. BUT there are some neat things about what’s rocking behind this pretty exterior…
- sport a 5.2 inch HD display screen
- curved shape makes it more comfortable to hold in hand
- use your voice only for apps like Facebook, Twitter and Pandora.
- you can name your phone whatever you want and get info from it! My name of choice? Freelove an old family name from way back when. For real!
- camera is fab, even in dark conditions
- camera has a best shot feature that will identify the optimal shot by taking several photos before and after
Let’s face it, smart phones are typically expensive and I often have to shy away from a phone I really like because of the price tag. But the Moto X costs $99 with a 2 year contract, or if you’re shy of commitment, like I am :), you can purchase outright for $499. And to be honest, yet again, that’s less than I spent on the phone I have sitting next to me with significantly less memory and a look thousands of others have.
In the end, I’m really excited about the Moto X and love the flexibility in the looks that can portray the owner’s style or personality. This is the next step in phones, people, and I want one! Head on over to the MotoMaker website to customize your own!
