What is up with little kids not wanting to wash their hands? I mean, I get it sometimes. You’re having fun and you’re in a hurry, or whatever, and you’re pretty sure you didn’t pee on your hands anyway :) so it should be okay this one time, right?

Maybe a scientist or a biologist or somebody could say that once in a while isn’t bad or maybe it is totally not even not bad but actually beneficial. Heck, there might be some scientists who don’t believe in hand washing at all. I don’t know. I don’t read science. Unless it’s a pretty compelling looking documentary on Netflix or Amazon Prime, well, I don’t know much about it at all. Since we’re not talking about the Holocaust or how filthy cities of the days of yore were I can only tell you what I was taught as a kid. Wash your dang hands.

I’ve noticed that where I live SO MANY women and children do NOT wash their hands after using the bathroom. And there are SO MANY bathrooms around here that are DISGUSTING. The sights! The smells! The inevitable germs! And they don’t even do that quick dip under running water, “ooh, look I washed my hands” pretense thing, either. They just head on out of the bathroom, their business obviously finished and some of them will look you in the eye because they give zero flips about what you think. Gack! Just gack!

Healthy hand washing is something I really, really want to encourage. And so when I saw some squishy eyeballs at Walmart I decided to make some Halloween themed creepy eyeball hand soap to get the littles interested in washing those germs away. Now, fair warning, you apparently can’t get these eyeballs back out again. I tried spearing them with wooden skewers, lancing them with an X-acto knife. Nada. We are, apparently, always going to have these eyeballs in this soap dispenser so I really hope my Sweet Rob is cool with that :)

And since I’m crazy about video right now, well, that’s how I knocked this business out. I hope you enjoy it!

For this project you will need:

  • Clear soap dispenser
  • Clear hand soap
  • Food coloring (don’t worry, it washes out with the hand soap!)
  • Squishy eyeballs (mine are from Walmart Halloween section)
  • Bowl and spoon

Yay for fake gross-ness but actually clean hands! Huzzah!
