Comic Book Mugs

Happy New Year ladies and gents! I hope you all had fun ringing in the new year and that it’s off to a good start. Mine certainly is. I’ve done loads of projects in the last few days (no school and 3 days off work make me awfully productive). Today’s tutorial is one of those projects and I am patiently waiting to be able to use mine. Don’t you hate drying time? I’m so impatient, I normally like to craft things that are a little more instant gratification but this idea was too good to pass up.

  • Dishwasher-safe Mod Podge
  • Mug
  • Foam brush
  • Comics (you can get some new issues for $1)
  • Scissors

Step 1: Cut out one large comic panel you like or a collage of small pictures. If you like your comics and don’t want to cut them up you can always copy the page (only on an ink-jet printer though, other inks may smear with Mod Podge)

Step 1.5: Following the instructions on the mod podge bottle (read instructions always when using a product you’re not familiar with!) wipe the mug surface with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol.

Step 2: Apply Mod Podge to the back of the comic page and place it on your mug, then apply a light coat of Mod Podge on top of the page, overlapping onto the mug. Let dry and apply 1-2 more coats.
I didn’t do the best job centering my panel so I added the characters initials in some matching washi tape to balance the cup.

Step 3: (the worst part) Wait 30 days for your Mod Podge to cure before your mug is ready to be used. It is top rack dishwasher safe but I prefer to hand wash mine just to be sure.
A full 360 degree view of my new favorite mug!!! Which I can use in…26 days. Yay! I can’t wait!

Til Next Time!
