Last year when I started this blog I had begun collecting jewelry from thrift stores to make a fun, big chunky necklace with tons and tons of stuff on there like is all the rage. Now at one point I was thrifting at least once but often twice a week. My hand sanitizer (or as my mother and I accidentally say it, hanitizer) bill was through the roof!

Regardless of so many trips to so many stores I never collected enough little baubles to equal one awesome necklace. It’s kind of like real wool sweaters to make a patchwork sweater throw. That never worked out for me, either. Where are these people getting all of this stuff from? How many years did it take to accumulate?

Eventually the taste left my mouth and I decided that I didn’t want what everyone else already had, anyway. I set my sights on a new project. A blinged out charm bracelet. But this time I wasn’t going to be digging through little, smelly plastic baskets or having some dead someone’s son giving me the heeby jeebies at an estate sale. Instead I was going to the everything’s a dollar jewelry store. I bought up tons of earrings and pendants with the sole idea that I was going to take them apart and craft with them.

For this project you will need:

First you’ll need to cut your chain just a bit shorter than to the right size to fit comfortably as a bracelet. I got the bright idea to go ahead and put on my magnetic closure and I would recommend that you wait until the very end because it was a nightmare but I was too stubborn to undo it.

Next you’ll need to take apart your earrings. I decided to start with the dangle earrings I purchased and move to the clip ons only if these babies weren’t enough. I took them apart carefully and now I have some free earring findings!

Using jump rings, attach your charms. You can work with a pattern or just toss them on. I tossed mine on but it worked out to be a pattern, anyway.

Here are my clip on earrings. You’ll first need to tear off the clip on part. It turned out on these cheapie earrings it is no thing. Seriously. Take your pliers and grab on, turn and they pop right off.

Now you’ll take your super strong adhesive and put a little dollop at the top on the backside of an earring. Let the glue become tacky and then set a jump ring in the glue hanging over the edge like in the pic above. Give them a few hours to fully dry.

Use your newest charms to fill the bracelet out. If you were smarter than me, you also need to add on your closures at this point.

And there she is, a gorgeous new (and cheap) bling charm bracelet. Gotta tell you that even though everything in this bracelet is fake, fake, fake, I still feel like a princess when I wear it. A princess in a good way. Not a princess in a teasing because you won’t pee outside kind of a way. Happy Hump Day!
