Autumn for me means stocking up on sweaters, decking the house in Halloween décor (okay.. so I did that mid-August already), and enjoying lots of spiked apple cider, so I thought I would kick things off with some delicious Apple Pie Shots! You can sharpen your skills at carving out pumpkins by hollowing out some juicy Granny Smith apples to make a festive vessel for these tasty shooters or just enjoy them straight from the glass! Either way, these are a great way to celebrate the new season or to serve up for guests at your next Halloween party!
(makes 4 shots)
½ cup apple cider
½ cup Sailor Jerry Rum
4 Granny Smith apples
Grated nutmeg or ground cinnamon
Heat apple cider and rum in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir occasionally while prepping the apples. Cut about ½ inch off the top of each apple and discard. Use a spoon to carve out the centers creating a well for the cocktail. Be careful not to split the apple or carve too deep or else you’ll have to worry about the shots leaking out.
When ready, carefully pour the cider and rum mixture (my advice is to transfer mix to a glass measuring cup with a spout to make the pouring easier) until the apples are about ¾ of the way full.
Add whipped cream and sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon. Serve right away.
