I have always been very fond of the rule, if I cook it you clean it and vice versa. It means that everybody is involved in supper time and nobody is slaving away the entire night in the kitchen.
Now just because I’m normally going to be the one to cook it rather than clean it, that doesn’t mean that I’m cold-hearted enough to not care about how difficult it will be for the dishwasher. So whenever I can I do my best to prep anything that goes into my oven properly. And by properly I mean with PAM cooking spray.
I’m totally serious. Since I’ve lived alone and had to be cook and dishwasher I’ve come to realize that what a royal pain patootie it can be to get things properly clean. Especially when dealing with sugary or cheesy things. Lasagna anybody? Not without PAM Cooking Spray. Totes for real.
And since my sweet tooth was majorly hungering for something I decided to throw together a delightful crumble made with sweet cherries, amaretto and almonds. Dolloped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream a bowl of this dessert just might be the greatest thing this side of paradise.
And if you need another plus, here you go… it’s crazy fast and super easy. So let’s get after it, shall we?
Amaretto Cherry Crumble
This scrumptious dessert uses frozen cherries so that it can be made any time of the year! Recipe can easily be doubled or tripled. Serves 4.
- 16 ounces frozen sweet cherries thawed
- 1/4 c. white sugar
- 2 T. amaretto
- 1/2 c. oats
- 1/3 c. flour (GF flour blend of choice works great, too!)
- 1/4 c. butter, softened
- 1/3 c. brown sugar, packed
- 3 T. almonds, sliced or slivered
Gather your ingredients including your PAM Cooking Spray. It is completely unnecessary to make this many bowls dirty. It makes for pretty pictures so that’s why I did it but I surely wouldn’t have otherwise :)
Spray your choice of baking dish with PAM Cooking Spray. With *99% less residue than margarine or bargain-brand cooking sprays this is going to be one scrum-diddily-umptious crumble and it wont stick to your pan meaning less time spent cleaning and more time spent on the things you love!
Preheat your oven to 350°.
In a mixing bowl take your thawed cherries (yes mine are frozen but you should definitely thaw and gently press excess moisture out with a paper towel for the best results) and add your white sugar.
Add your amaretto liqueur or amaretto flavoring. If you prefer flavor instead, the flavoring is more difficult to find these days but it is available online. Be sure to pay attention to the strength of your flavoring and add to taste.
Spread your cherries into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
Take your softened butter, brown sugar…
…all purpose flour OR gluten flour blend of choice…
…and oats and add to a medium sized bowl.
Using a fork combine until well blended.
Sprinkle your crumble mixture on top of the cherries.
Top with slivered almonds, or mix in with your crumble mixture beforehand if you prefer.
Bake 30 minutes or until your crumble mixture turns golden brown and fruit has begun to bubble.
Allow to set an hour or so prior to serving.
Add a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and prepare to be wowed by this super quick and simply anytime crumble recipe! In fact, this is recipe is also great for the upcoming holiday seasons! Your dessert will be easy, breezy and no one will know the wiser!
