These air fryer hard boiled eggs are so quick and easy to make that it will be your go to recipe! These eggs are perfectly cooked with a soft, buttery yolk.
In the past I’ve made lots and lots of Easter eggs. But the thing is, they’ve always been plastic eggs. I like working with plastic eggs because I’m clumsy and I drop things and, well, eggs are kind of delicate, aren’t they? But this year I decided I was over plastic eggs even though I had already purchased a good 5 dozen of them, egads! Why can’t I figure this stuff out before I spend money on things?
2020 is my year for REAL Easter eggs so it’s time to get boiling…
But the thing is, I kind of stink at boiling eggs. They always clack together and I have a whole bunch of broken eggs before I even get around to bringing out the dye. Heck, before even bringing them out of the boiling water! My boiled eggs are always, ALWAYS overcooked. They have a weird looking greenish-gray halo thing happening around the yolk, but so have MOST of the boiled eggs I’ve eaten in my life. The real problem is that my traditionally boiled eggs are kind of rubbery which is unforgivable, if you ask me.
And so, like so many other foods in my life, I have busted out the air fryer. Yep, I’ve started making air fryer hard boiled eggs. Which is kind of weird because how do you BOIL something in an AIR FRYER, right?
The results you get by putting raw eggs in the air fryer is that of a perfectly boiled egg.
Like, perfectly, perfect. The whites are always soft and tender, the yolks are cooked and buttery and never gray or greenish anywhere.
Besides the fact that the results of air fryer hard boiled eggs are EGGStraodinary (sorry, had to). It’s also SO FAST. Today in preparation of working on a couple of Easter egg designs I air fryer boiled 32 eggs in about 30 minutes total prep and cook time. There were no cracked eggs and there was not a runny or rigid yolk in sight. And I know because before I started dyeing the eggs I ate 3 for lunch. I mean, quality testing. Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs Recipe
- 12 raw eggs
- 1 bowl ice water
- Place cold eggs on wire rack without touching.
- Set air fryer to cook at 260° for 20 minutes.
- Once cooked transfer quickly to an ice water bath in a large bowl. Allow to cool completely. Store in the air fryer hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator.

Not all air fryers are the same and your results might differ.
It’s a good idea to test your air fryer to make sure you get the results you want before you toss 2 dozen eggs into the thing.
Clean your air fryer before you try boiling eggs in it.
If you can throw your parts into the dishwasher that’s fab. My Chefman Air Fryer is more like a traditional oven with racks that slide in and out. Only the racks can be removed to be cleaned. If your machine is like this, clean the inside with a paper towel dampened with white vinegar. Clean the walls, ceiling and floor until the paper towels come away clean.
What if the eggs have brown dots all over them?
You will definitely see brown dots if using a dirty air fryer. But sometimes they show up in a perfectly clean machine. Either way, no worries. Just transfer the eggs to the ice bath as usual. Gently rub your hands or a dish rag over the surface of each egg while under water and the marks should disappear. Sometimes you might have a stubborn dot that doesn’t come away but that is rare.
