Sometimes the strangest things remind me of something… like making these paper fans. They remind me of this really pretty coloring book I had when I was little with geishas and cherry blossoms and ornate fans to color in. It also reminds me of when we went to church so my mother could be baptized a few days after my Poppa’s funeral. The boys were really antsy that morning and my Mimmie went off about how we were all to keep our butts firmly planted in those pews. There would be no messing around and no trying to sneak off early. Things were crazy that morning and the boys were hungry so we weren’t sure how long they would last before getting really cranky and mentioned we’d try but might not succeed in making it to the end of the service. I also let the boys choose my jewelry and I was wearing some sort of holiday earrings, maybe Easter? And I was having an allergic reaction to the posts but felt too badly to pull them off my ears and so they were bright red and swollen :) <— see weird memories pop up from the weirdest things :)
There was no air conditioning in the church and with all of the people it became quite warm quite quickly. Each spot on the pew had a convenient little paper hand fan to keep the air circulating and give some sort of relief. And relief it did give! Those little things were amazing! There’s nothing like sweating in panty hose, now is there?
Now are you wondering who was the first person to bolt the service? Well, that was “keep those butts in those pews” Mimmie, as it would just so happen. Turns out this was a rock and roll church and Mimmie is not a fan. At all. :) Now that I’ve gone all over the place, why don’t you see how to make your own paper fans out of coloring pages over at Mom Spark. :)
