I really, really love having pretty flowers around even though I don’t really like gardening so much, per se. But like so many things in life, the ends justify the means. In order to be surrounded with pretty plants I have to, well, plant them, right? And then I have to care for them. So when there is anything that makes life easier for a lazy gardener I take it and run.

Now I love, love, LOVE going to the plant nursery and buying pretty things. It is so much fun! And now that I live in a sub-tropical climate I get the added bonus of being able to get these AMAZING plants I didn’t even know existed and that is so cool! And I’m pretty stoked because I’m soon going to be building a raised planter in front of my Sweet Rob’s studio window. You see, his window faces north meaning that directly in front of his window he sees a dirt and moss patch that finally meets with grass where the sun deigns to share its presence.

Planning out the bed was a lot of fun. I researched different materials and methods and, in the end, I decided to work with inexpensive cinder blocks. So Rob and I went to the hardware store and loaded 20 cinder blocks onto a cart and then into the back of his car. I don’t believe either of us realized how much space this would take, nor how much weight it would be. When we moved the blocks over from the stack on the pallet at the store onto the cart and then into the back of his car, we were both kind of spent. That was a lot of weight to haul around! . (p.s. – Sneak peek at the build site and sneak peek at materials for this fabulous planter below!)

But luckily we didn’t have to make another irritating trip to the store to buy a whole bunch of bags of heavy soil. Instead we got our dirt dropped off straight at the house and the delivery man placed it exactly where I needed it. How cool is that? You might be wondering, what kind of dirt is this? Well, I’ve got the dirt on it, y’all!

Since I technically have a black thumb I am a loyal customer of Miracle-Gro because even I can successfully keep a garden looking pretty and lush. I literally purchase nothing BUT Miracle-Gro because anything else always winds up being a waste of money. And so when I heard about their new soil that you can use for containers, raised beds and gardens that contain flowers, fruits and veggies or succulents that is lightweight and delivered straight to your door via Amazon I was SOLD.

This seemingly magic product is Miracle-Gro Expand N’ Gro Concentrated Planting Mix. And I say magic because you add water and in 10 minutes it expands up to 3 times it size, and, as somebody who still loves games and toys, well, this is really freaking cool and borderline magic! :) With Expand N’ Gro our plants can grow up to 3x bigger with this soil than what you’ve got already in the ground because it effectively aerates the soil adding 90% more air, has Miracle-Gro fertilizer we’re used to that feeds plants for 6 months and holds 50% more water. Are you sold yet? You should be!

Be sure to come back soon to see how to build your own cinder block based raised bed that is gorgeous (no, seriously!) and super cost effective with Expand N’ Gro. Until then!
