I think that I’ve been needing a fresh, new start for a while now. Looking back at my life the last few years makes me sad because I realize just how I’ve spent far too long being unhappy. And the past few days I’ve been noticing how these things can linger if you let them. I spent a lot of time over the past few days letting stresses like these get the best of me. There have been a lot of tears. I was upset that I’m going to be so far away from my sisters and nephews which will be the hardest thing to overcome.

As silly as it is I was also sad to get rid of so many of my things because my moving truck wasn’t large enough. Even though they are just things the frustration of losing my office storage for my work stuff, TV stand, side tables, living room tables, lots and lots of clothes, lawn furniture, projects for my work and at least half of my decorative things was upsetting. I’ve spent so much time building up the things I own and love and I had to set them to the curb and watch other people take them home.

Once we got that moving truck full with as much stuff as it could possibly hold we finally were able to head on out. I shoved a PERK Caribbean Colada vent wrap in into our less than cozy rental truck to make Mr. Rob’s ride a bit more pleasant. He could smell the goodness though he couldn’t see it. Conveniently shaped, these guys go around one of your vents and practically disappear from sight. Though he was unfamiliar with the brand, I’ve been a fan for quite some time… PERK air freshener lasts about 2 weeks and you get 4 in a package and that equals a lot of lovely smelling bang for your buck and they keep putting out the great smells whether the vents are used or not.

And because there are quite a few great PERK smells, before heading out I also tossed a new car scent into my own. I figure that with the appropriate scent I can feel like my only 6 month old hasn’t already rolled over 12,000 miles.   It turned out that we were going to wind up spending a lot more time with our new scents than we had previously thought. The drive was supposed to take us 14 hours, but in the end with the stresses of life making me unwell and needing to continually stop we had one 3 hour, 11 hour and 7 hour day making our whole car time 21 hours. Well, I suppose at least 7 of those hours had something to do with me in a fast food restaurant or convenience store being unwell in reality :)

But guess what?! Rob and I arrived in one piece! The text messages sent out so no one would worry, we walked around our new home checking out the lay of the land. True our grass looked more like a jungle than a city lawn but we were still really excited to have finally made it home. Yep, this is my home now :) Things are still an absolute disaster with boxes of things all over the place. We’ve only got so many square feet and having both come from similar sized homes that were fully furnished and used there is going to be a serious garage sale going down. And that’s even with me leaving so much stuff behind (which in hindsight I can put into proper perspective and realize that they are just things). 008-moving-to-texas-perk-dreamalittlebigger

We’ve made a path from the front door to the kitchen and master bedroom and we’re taking things one day at a time and unloading boxes as we can. Since there is nothing to leak and things are wonky and crazy I’ve actually put a few of our PERK Vent Wrap  s around the house. Since our wax burners are tucked away in a box and may not turn up for some time they are an awesome little alternative. We both like our smell goods  :) Even though it’s been a tough road and I have been stressed and have had my feelings hurt more than a handful of times, I’m glad to be home. Now I’m setting to the task of nesting and setting up our home and I’m already feeling so much better. Little rides around my new town with Rob, with our fabulously smelling vehicles, is really opening my eyes to what a great place I’ve found to call home. I sure am going to miss those Oklahoma sunsets, though :)

Hey Allison. Just wanted to leave a quick note here. I know all about the hardships of moving. When my family moved back in 2013, I had to leave a lot of my stuff (and memories) behind. It was heartbreaking. And moving from a home that we lived in for nearly 20 years… well, what can I say? I practically grew up there. My first night I was shedding some major tears, not even goin’ lie about that. Change is really hard for me. But once I got used to apartment living, our new place began to grow on me. And while I do still miss our old house and think of it often, I like our new place. It has become a home to me; where I can create some wonderful new memories. And its those memories that will help carry me through.
So, to cut this short, I’m happy to hear that you and Rob made it to your new place safely. I’m sorry that I’m a bit late with my note here. Going through some hardships right now, stressing a lot and my feeling getting hurt quite a bit lately. Not sure what the deal is with that, but I’m holding on. You hold on also. :)

    Stay awesome!
