I said it over there and I'll say it here again,  my momma is a shortie and St. Patrick's Day is coming up... Which lead me to thinking about leprechauns, which lead me thinking about pots of gold, which lead me to thinking about rainbows and inspired these totally awesome rainbow flats.

Now I added glitter because what is more awesome that crazy glittered rainbow flats? Not a whole lot, people. While these puppies are crazy impressive looking they really aren't that difficult to make.

So want to put a little glitzy color lovin' pep in your step? Or yo' Momma's for that matter? Head on over to Mom Spark to get the deets on the Rainbow Glitter Flats Tutorial!

LOVE Letters - Cardboard

Make letter art out of cardboard for a cheap and easy way to decorate for any holiday. DIY via Dream a Little Bigger.

I think that I like decorating for holidays like Valentine's Day more in theory than in practice. For instance, I had ideas for projects out the wazoo, but in the end I would decide to spend my crafting dollar somewhere else. After all, decorating up for every holiday is fun but it can get pricey. Besides I don't exactly have closets upon storage sheds upon garages of extra space to hang on to everything.

And when I was working it out I figured, why would someone who doesn't craft partially for a living want to spend their crafting budget the same way? The answer I came up with for myself was, they probably wouldn't. So, while I'm not trying to put thoughts into your head, I'm also not making a V-Day mantle decor that'll cost you $30.

German Glass Glitter Christmas Ornaments

German glass glitter Christmas ornament DIY - Dream a Little BiggerWhen I was a kid, our ornaments included these little, fake, red apples. I really, really liked them. They were nothing fancy. Just fake apples on slight gold string... but for some reason every Christmas I find  myself thinking about them.

As an adult, I'm pretty surprised that I never had apple ornaments of my own on my tree before today. It all happened by accident. Walking through the dollar store I saw a fake lime that caught my eye because of the very small, obviously child-sized bite marks in it. It wasn't a slight, kind of noticeable dent but full blown, the white foam is visible in the shape of some itty bitty chompers. But the thing is, the kid didn't learn apparently, or another kid came along and decided to try their luck because there were two sets pretty close to one another.

The whole thing made me smile and rather than passing by these buckets of faux fruit as I have been for who knows how long, I actually noticed the apples. It seemed just right that they should be on my tree.

Faux Snowy Pinecones - Winter Decor DIY

Faux snowy pinecones DIY - Dream a Little Bigger

I have set a fairly weighty task for myself this year. It is currently my plan to make every little bit of Christmas decoration that I can to accompany my "fancy" tree this year. My "fun" tree that goes in the dining room, however, is still store-bought game.

Every year so far my fancy tree has been glitzy with lots of metallics, glitter and the like. Last 2 years, specifically, it was gold, brown and bronze and gorgeous but I'm ready for a change. The plan for Christmas living room decor for 2012 is natural glitz! I'm planning on using as many natural things as possible and nix most of the glitter to make my tree something special.

The first project I have completed are these fantastic faux snowy pinecones. The pinecones themselves I purchased at the most depressing garage sale EVER. Not too keen on salesmanship, the lady kept explaining to me the dead person who most recently owned the item I was holding. She even asked if I would like to purchase her dead brother's foot massager. Sorry, but no thanks.

Glittered Glass Case

Yesterday I found a whole bunch of incredible blingy DIY posts from all over the internet. Inspired but short on time, I whipped up this glittered glass case. It's quick, easy and a guaranteed way to find your glasses in that big ol' mess you call a purse!

I'm short on time and amped up on caffiene, so let's get going!

You will need:

  • plastic glasses case (mine came free from Zenni Optical)
  • glitter
  • mod podge
  • bristled brush

STEP 1: Pour out some Mod Podge and top with a healthy dose of glitter. Use your bristled brush and stir it up well.

STEP 2: Slather that stuff on thick. To try and curb accidents and mistakes, I chose to only cover one side at a time. If you're less accident prone, you may decide to do both at once and that's cool, too.

STEP 3: While your first coat is still wet, sprinkle glitter on top. Allow to dry fully.

STEP 4: Go over the top of your glitter with a coat of Mod Podge only to seal in the glitter and prevent it from getting everywhere. Allow to dry fully/

STEP 5: If you put your glitter on thick, there are going to be inevitable drips and run over on the inside edges. Very gently peel back to separate from the plastic. Use scissors or an x-acto knife to trim up.

And that's that - an open and shut project! See you soon!
