Faux Hammered Metal Tutorial

Get the look of hammered metal with this faux tutorial at Dream a Little Bigger

Get the look of hammered metal with this faux tutorial at Dream a Little BiggerRight now I'm knees deep in redoing my main bathroom. It is the only bathroom with a shower or tub so, as far as I'm concerned it is the only bathroom that counts (since it is the only one guests normally see). Whenever more than one person needs to pee, however, opinions differ and everyone thinks my teeny water closet off my bedroom is pretty fantastic.

I've been working on more storage room, making my shower appear bigger and all of that good stuff and decided that I wanted to take the abstract art reprint that has been in there for close to 7 years down. But what to go in its place?

I went into the craft closet to find some inspiration. I had a bunch of 8.5 inch tall wood letters but they didn't spell anything good. After playing around I figured out if I bought a "C" I could spell clean! How awesome is that?

The look I really wanted was hammered metal. but since I have no idea how to do that or how to get that onto my letters I decided to try something else out. A few bags of 20mm silver sequins later and I had a plan (faux sho')

Now what is nifty about this is it doesn't have to be used on just wooden letters. This fun way to emulate hammered metal can be used on just about anything!

Curly Pipe Cleaner Christmas Tree Decorations

fun pipe cleaner tree topper DIY - Dream a Little Bigger

Continuing on with yesterday's theme, I'm going to share with you another fun, cheap and easy way to decorate up your Christmas tree. Perhaps you're going with a non-traditional theme (like neon) and it is difficult to find decor to work. Or maybe you want a new look by adding something on the cheap.

Either way, I've got you covered. I bought a total of 6 packages of pipe cleaners for approximately $2.50 a pack. Then I got to down curling the heck out of these things. It's really easy:

Cheap & Easy Neon Pompom Garland DIY

cheap, cute and easy pom pom garland tutorial - Dream a Little Bigger

You may have seen the neon ornaments I made a couple of weeks ago with fun stencils on them. Well, as it turns out neon is just a bit too much for me. But guess who it isn't too much for? My sister and nephews!

So these ornaments made the trek with me down to my sister's house for Thanksgiving to live on her white tree with multicolored lights. Since there is a huge dearth in the neon Christmas decor market in 2012 we had to get relatively crafty to get her tree all dolled up. I'm predicting in 2013 that it will be considerably easier to find neon tree baubles. You heard it here first, people!

So in the spirit of a fun and jovial (yet cheap) Christmas tree we tromped around the hobby store looking for anything that could work. We stumped upon some neon pompoms and that was the basis for the first garland made for this tree that turned out way, way awesome!
