I remember being little and desperately trying to make a snowman with the light dusting that took over the the front yard. My sister and I would have to collect every bit of snow from that entire yard to make a tiny and wholly unimpressive snowman. But that never stopped us from trying. I wonder how much exercise we got playing in the snow like that? I remember coming in to the warm house, my hands freezing cold underneath my gloves and my face bright red and being very happy to finally be inside. Like I hadn’t chosen to be outside all by myself :)
It’s no surprise that with my fondness for those memories I really love snowmen. If I have the option between two equally pretty Christmas cards, I’ll choose the one with a snowman on it every. single. time. :)
In making up some holiday treats I was really excited to snag some OREO Cookies at Kroger to make cookie balls. They’re super simple and super duper cute making them one of the greatest holiday treats ever. And since Rob and I are in a repetitive pattern where I take him some place he’s never been before and he falls in love with it, Rob is now head over heels for Kroger. On our little trip he filled our cart, mostly with fancy cheeses right on next to my packages of OREO cookies!
For this project you will need:
- 24 Winter OREO Cookies, divided
- Mini OREO Cookies
- 3 Tbsp. brick cream cheese, softened
- White melting chocolate
- Milk chocolate melting wafers
- Edible markers
Crush up your cookies nice and fine. Place them into 2 heavy, freezer bags is the perfect way to keep from getting crushed OREO cookies all over your kitchen! Use something heavy like a meat mallet, or as in my case, a potato masher, to make as fine a crumbled bag of cookie bits as you can make. Alternatively you can use a food processor but I hate cleaning those things. HATE IT!
Mix your cookies and cream cheese together until well incorporated.
Roll into balls and place on waxed paper. Place in the freezer for 15 minutes to an hour.
While your cookie balls are hardening up we can make the little hats our snowmen will wear.
Apply a small amount of melted chocolate to your small OREO…
…and place in the middle of a larger OREO Cookie. Take another mini cookie and twist in half. Add that on top of your other mini OREO for the perfect hat shape and size! Place in the refrigerator at least 15 minutes or until the chocolate as fully hardened and your cookies are good and stuck together.
Dip each hat in melted milk chocolate and place on wax paper or parchment paper to set up.
Next roll your cookie balls into melted white chocolate. Top with a milk chocolate OREO hat and allow the chocolate to fully set. Use the refrigerator to help speed the process if you need to.
Using your food decorating, edible markers draw on 2 eyes made out of coal and a little coal smile.
Draw a yellow carrot and then go over that with your red marker to make orange! Boom! That’s a fine looking snowman there, if I do say so myself!
Now melting chocolate and dipping things can be a bit tricky. I’m definitely no pro but I find that the more I do it the easier it gets. Even if you are a bit intimidated by melting chocolate, I hope you give this a go because even if imperfect, they’re stinking cute. Look at that guy up there. Imperfect and still stinkin’ cute!
And as you make more and more you get better and better! See, even cuter :)
Next time you’re pushing that cart up and down the aisle at Kroger be sure to grab some OREO cookies and your other ingredients to make these super sweet snowmen OREO cookie balls! I promise your friends and family will eat them right up!
