I’ve always thought that the gorgeous Christmas scenes in movies were total and complete garbage. Unless we’re talking about National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Now that’s more like it.
Now because my whole family is all spread out through Texas except for my sister and myself, everybody has to make a trek so that we can be together. Except for my sister. Since she’s the one with kids we all come to her! And we all pile into her house, which luckily has four bedrooms and three bathrooms and then we proceed to trash the place. You just can’t have that many people sharing rooms and bathrooms and living together for a full week without things going missing and items being misplaced under someone else’s stuff.
One year on the night before Christmas we couldn’t find any shampoo. None. Not in three bathrooms could we find it. So we all wound up using body was on our hair. Big, big mistake. Most of us had this terrible frizzy hair full of static the next morning and all of the pics look like a reunion for the descendants of Einstein rather than a joyful Christmas morning. I swear when we all convene one of the little nephews will freak out because they almost drank someone’s teeth, we’ll all be going around with un-fresh feeling mouths that taste like kid’s toothpaste or we figure out that half of use have been confused and using the same toothbrush. Ugh.
But then I heard about these super nifty Bento storage boxes from Rubbermaid and I just knew what I had to do. It was time to head to Target to build a Rubbermaid Bento Holiday Rescue Kit! No more dirty mouths, no more crazy frizzy hair, no more accidentally putting hemorrhoid ointment on toothbrushes… I am so excited because I am going to save Christmas Day!
These boxes are pretty darn cool. They’ve got tons of sizes and the smaller ones can fit into the bigger ones to have more distinct areas. Plus, they have these little pockets that open and close as needed that remind me an awful lot of slap bracelets! There are also lids for the larger ones that would be perfect to roll up a stash of towels on if I had been making a bigger box. And I really wanted to buy a bigger box, but as I was told, there will be plenty of reasons to use a Rubbermaid Bento box and I should get the one that will be perfect for my rescue kit. So I chose one of the smaller ones.
They also had a good number of patterns. From plain beige and a matching pattern to a bright teal and this matching geometric pattern that I selected figuring it would stand out best in the chaos that is my family.
And here is what I filled my kit with:
- Four spare toothbrushes
- Adult toothpaste
- Mouthwash (not pictured some disposable plastic cups that fit neatly beside)
- Manicure kit with tweezers, nail nippers, emery board, etc.
- Cotton swabs
- Hair spray
- Body spray
- Stick deodorant
- Spray deodorant (I refuse to use stick deoderant after anybody, even family!)
- Common over the counter medications
And just in case you were wondering, my resident box expert (a.k.a the cat) totally approved!
I figure I’ll set this baby up somewhere out of the way but noticeable. Perhaps on a cabinet in the dining room that doesn’t get much action so that everyone has access and it won’t be likely to grow legs and walk off from there. But check it out in my teeny bathroom. Everything I need right there and it fits perfectly!
I love my family and I love spending Christmas with them, even with all of the chaos the time brings. But I also love having clean teeth and hair that doesn’t crackle and pop!
