I love my pets. But I guess you now that. Somebody doesn’t get to have 5 of them without thinking they’re pretty freaking awesome, do they? And sometimes I want to treat my animals just because they’re plain freaking cute. Because they are. Every one of them.
And you know what? I think they do far more for me than I do for them, really. Living alone and out in the boonies can be a bit lonely at times. But it’s so much easier when you have a sweet little Liddy purring on your lap, even if you’re trying desperately to keep her from licking you! And when my tough little Miss Marla decides she wants to share her company with me, which isn’t terribly often as she’s highly independent, well, I’ll stop my entire day just to love on her while the getting’s good. So, yeah… 4 cats and 1 dog live up in here. That’s 5 furry mouths to feed, 10 sad eyes to beg for treats and 20 little feet running to me when I open up something special for them. And I love giving them treats. Who wouldn’t? Treats are something every living creature gets excited about. A snow cone on a hot summer’s day or a dog biscuit doled out for sitting on command. It’s all the same, really. And like I said, I’m isolated and the nearest place for me to shop is The Dollar General. And I do. A lot. Sometimes I’m running in for a battery that needs to be replaced pronto, or maybe I ran out of milk or maybe I’m just bored and want to get out of my own space for a bit. And most of the time I wind up wandering to the pet aisle just to see what kind of treats I can toss in my basket for my furries. The reason why I can do that almost every visit is because it’s not going to break the bank. There is always something I can grab for just a buck or two and be the hero of the day for handing over that Busy Bone or those cute little shaped kitty treats. And so I was challenged to spend $20 at The DG as we call it to see just how far that treat money could go… Boom, check it. That’s a ton of stuff. Seriously look at all of that stuff! Now those Busy Bones are amazing and Ollie freaks for them. He can even recognize the package from the distance. I don’t know if it’s the sound or the look of it but I pull one of those out of the bag and he knows he’s been a good boy! And look at that… If I wouldn’t have bought a dang highlighter my bill would have been UNDER $20 for all of that stuff. Now. I have got a little tip for you… There’s this little Instagram thingamabob going down where you could win $100 worth of free pet food. Pretty neat, eh? All you have to do is fill your yellow bag with Dollar General Alpo Products (toys, leashes, cat litter, treats, regular old food) snap a pic and post it to Instagram with the hashtag #DGPetDash. The winner is the pic with the most likes. Now that doesn’t sound so hard does it? And for 100 bucks worth of free pet food you’re going to have to buy anyway? Pretty sweet!
