If you’ve never been by Clones N Clowns you really should go over there, like now. Aimee is one of those unique and creative personalities that can DIY up a picnic blanket in one post, a necklace in the next and then do a whole series of 30 different DIY tee shirts in 30 days. This gal is a crafty genius and I love her blog. I’m so happy to be able to introduce her to all of you!
Why did you decide to start up a DIY blog?
I have been “DIYing” for years, even if I used other words at the time. I had so much to share and was really inspired by some other DIY blogs I had seen online. I thought “wow, I could share my ideas too” ! And that was it, Clones ‘n’ Clowns was born…
Clones N Clowns is an interesting name. Is there a story behind it?
It was a one-second choice, really ! I had previously written a short story about a girl at a fashion show and her vision of fashion was all about clones and clowns.
What is the crafting community like in France?
Very different from the US/UK community, actually ! From what I see, the French don’t seem to “craft” so much but definitely get down to some good sewing ! It gets pretty technical ! But there are crafty people all over the world, and we definitely learn from each other wherever we’re from now the Internet is here to inspire and teach.
Where do you most often find inspiration for your projects?
All over… Catwalks, magazines, shops, people, pieces of art, past eras, moods… There’s no stopping it ! I have so many lists of ideas, I could fill another few lifetimes with all the projects I have in mind !
Your 30 days tee shirt refashioning project was genius. What inspired you to tackle such a big project?
I like a good challenge ! I simply woke up one morning and that was it, it was happening. I don’t even know where the idea came from. That happens a lot, nighttime brings me my best ideas. I guess that’s dreamland for you !
If you could only create with one craft medium for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Wow… My imagination ?!
Is there a new type of craft you’re dying to check out? What is it?
I’m intrigued by a lot of new crafts but I would mostly like to spend time perfecting my sewing techniques rather than starting something new. I would love for there to be no obstacle between my mind and reality and most of the time that includes pretty savvy sewing.
What project(s) are you most proud of?
I guess my heart knot necklace has made me pretty proud, although it’s simple. So many people shared it, it has been around the world and back again !
What do you do when you aren’t crafting? What are your interests besides crafting?
I have currently been writing a few books to be published by Hachette Books this year in France – so exciting ! They’re all about crafts and fashion DIY, as you could have guessed. The rest of the time I freelance as an online content / community manager and English-French translator. I’m also learning to take better photos, which I’m getting quite passionate about. I work out, cook a lot and spend time with my boyf, family and friends making the most of life !
Any advice you’d give to aspiring DIY bloggers?
KEEP AT IT !
Do you try to follow or make trends?
Current and past trends inspire me. I try to use that inspiration in my own way though. And I hope that inspires others to do the same !
What are your favorites?
All musicals… I’m a Harry Potter freak and also have to watch Bridget Jones at least once a month or I get shaky. I love fairytales, all colours and bright blue skies. I read cookbooks from front to back and have a long-term kitchen-crush on Jamie Oliver.
Anything else you’d like to share with the readers of Dream a Little Bigger?
Keep dreaming ! Never give up on ambition. And thanks for reading, I hope to see you on clonesnclowns.com soon :)
