Do you give your pets Christmas gifts? We’ve done it in my family as long as I can remember. One year my sister and I wrapped up presents for our pets Princess Patty Cake (her brother was Chuck E. Baby :) and Willie and tossed them under the tree days in advance of the actual big day. We shouldn’t have been surprised to find Willie digging and at flinging his wrapped shirt box full of goodies around the living room but we were. It was the dang cutest :)
After introducing my Rob to the Murray Christmas gifts for the pets tradition, this year will be no different. Our pets will unwrap their gifts and we will laugh and smile and it will be so much fun. Wanna meet our kitties?
Say hi to Maybelline who we call Maybe or sometimes Baby. She’s a sassy thing and she doesn’t take guff from anyone or anything.
And this is our Marla. She is the most popular animal of our whole bunch because she gets along with everybody. Our little adventurer, she does well in the car and makes frequent trips with us. She’s fab.
Last, but certainly not least is JouJou, who I call my JouJouBaby. He’s a big ol’ softy and everybody loves him but he doesn’t know he’s a cat and seems to be filled with a bit of self loathing. He seems to think he is a dog but, we have it on good authority, that he’s wrong. :) JouJou, by the by, will always be on Santa’s Nice list. I think he might seriously the sweetest cat to ever be.
But back to Christmas shopping!!! I headed out to Walmart to pick up some Temptations® treats and, I’ve got to tell you, I bought a TON. They were affordable and there were so many flavors that I couldn’t resist.
Since I got so much I guess it’s a good thing that our kitties really, really like them. They’ve seriously not turned down a single flavor but the Temptations® Classics Creamy Dairy Flavor is the front-runner with Marla and Maybe and the Temptations® Cheezy Middles Tuna and Cheese Flavor being the choice of our JouJou baby!
Getting ready to write up this post and snap pic of my babies with their fave flavors I found that the bags were destroyed… Completely destroyed! Setting out a new package and watching Maybe promptly attack the bag I found the culprit and realized just how much she loved the Temptations® Classics Tantalizing Turkey Flavor Cat Care & Treats. It also tells me that Maybe is probably going to make the kitty Naughty List her first Christmas!!!
I’ve found a much better hiding spot for the snacks for Christmas. No more naughty kitties making off with them early!
Of everything I snapped up I’m especially digging the Temptations® Snacky Mouse because this way they get to earn their treats!
Pop some treats in kitty’s favorite flavor and inside of this cute little mouse they’re busy for a good half an hour.
As they bat the mouse a treat or two will pop out. It’s a lot of fun!
All three of my cats get the biggest kick out of it and watching that mouse wobble around is just about the cutest! Something all three of them like is a pretty big deal, considering their vastly different personalities, too!
Want happy kitties this Christmas? Pair up the Snacky Mouse with some homemade Christmas ornament catnip filled cat toys and you’re sure to have some very happy Christmas cats!
Let’s see how to make these catnip cuties for our kitty cuties, shall we?
For this project you will need:
- Embroidery floss
Find something round and appropriately sized to act as a pattern. I used a widemouth mason jar lid. Trace the lid onto a piece of felt. Add a rectangular shape to act as the hanger for the ornament.
Double the felt over and trim the ornament out.
You should have 2 identical pieces, now.
Cut out strips of felt of varying widths and lay out on one felt ornament shape.
Using brightly colored embroidery floss stitch, decoratively stitch the felt pieces to secure together. The stitches don’t have to be fancy, a zig zag, dashes or X shapes do just as well.
p.s. I’m cat crazy so even my needle case has kitties! :)
Once fully stitched on turn your piece over and trim away the excess felt. Also, notice how my ink markings are on the back side? This will be the inside of the toy so these markings won’t be visible on the finished toys.
Continue adding pieces, stitching them on and trimming away the excess felt. And say hi to Maybe who just joined the party! Crafting with kitties isn’t the easiest thing in the world but it sure is fun!
Grab that second, identical ornament shape and place it behind your decorated piece. Use the blanket stitch to seal this sucker up leaving 1-2 inches open.
Using a heavy-ish paper create a funnel. Place inside of the gap in your ornament and fill with catnip. Sometimes you’ll need to use something like a chopstick or a pen to help push the catnip into the felt toy.
Once full to your satisfaction continue the blanket stitch until the toy is sealed up.
Aren’t they so cute? They’re really simple to make, too. I was able to make 3 in the time it took to watch about 50 minutes of TV. Not bad!
As always, my kitties LOVE homemade catnip filled toys. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that they smell like me and they love me (because they know I love them :)
They also love their Snacky Mouse and I have to say I love watching them play with it!
Whether your kitties are Naughty or Nice this Christmas, they all deserve a treat!
