« Custom Painted Shoes- Sponsored Giveaway - $90 Value!!! »

***GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Eep! I am so, so excited right now. Welcome one and all to my very, very first GIVEAWAY! Just so you know when I say it in my head, my voice sounds like Oprah. I'm so excited to really be starting this thing off with a bang and Catherine LaPointe has agreed to sponsor!

Up for grabs is a custom painted pair of super gorgeous butterfly flats from the very talented shoe artist Catherine LaPointe! These shoes normally retail for $90 - what a treat! Since these shoes are totally custom, she'll make them in whatever size you wear!

Let's learn a little about Miss Catherine LaPointe, shall we? An Upstate New York Native, Catherine is an illustrator, designer as well as a painter of shoes. How does one get into shoe painting? "I started painting shoes during a slow vacation week, when the idea just occurred to me as a way to fill the time and get a cool accessory. I got so many compliments and requests that I started an Etsy shop."

Interested in painting your own shoes? Check out Catherine's top tips:

"After some trial and error, I discovered the best ways to go about show-painting: First, choose the right shoe material. Light colors are easiest to work with, though any color will do.

Good examples:

  • Canvas
  • Satin
  • Silk
  • Leather

Bad examples:

  • Patent leather
  • Rubber
  • Plastic

Second, choose the correct paint. My first pair was painted with acrylic paint, which can crack and flake over time, especially on a flexible shoe. Fabric paint bonds well with the fabric of the shoe, and have proven both durable and long-lasting against weather and wear-and-tear. Dimensional (tulip) paint can also be used for effect.

Lastly, use your imagination and have fun!"
