I have this weird obsession with the texture of things. When I visit stores I tend to walk with my hand out touching everything I pass. From sweaters to blankets to produce I more often than not don’t realize it until I stumble upon something that feels amazing or strange or what-have-you and then I stop to check it out. And I cannot stand the feeling of cotton balls. I can’t even define what it is that bothers me but it does and if you’re near I’ll beg you to remove it from any new bottle of medicine. And if nobody is around I’ll grab a stick and try to dig it out and it will make this weird sound that reminds me of the feeling and it’s so uncomfortable. Weird, right?
My texture “thing” goes even into the food I eat. Yep, I’m a texture eater. I can’t do tomatoes, especially those little ones that pop in your mouth. OMG freaking no. Just stop with that.
I have equally strong reactions to textures that I do like. The quilt that I have had since I was itty bitty, my Smurf Blanket my momma made me, has this smooth, cool feeling and then as I move my hand over the slowly but surely disappearing embroidery I’m insanely comforted. And not too long ago I got this crazy hot pink top, like, it makes my eyes hurt because it’s so bright or pink or I don’t even know. Mostly I got it because Rob was like “uh” what I was like “check that insane business out” and he was being kind of a but so I went and threw it into the cart and then explained to the cashier why I was buying it when she went “that’s a crazy pink right there!”. Well, sometimes I wear that hideous thing because it is so soft. Like, SO SOFT. As I sit at my desk working on my to do lists or supply lists or any number of lists I compulsively make I find that I mindlessly begin petting my arms . It really is such a delicious feeling.
And so when I put together these feather Easter eggs and it totally worked out to where the feathers have this fuzzy awesome-ness. And, as a texture person, I totally love it. Doesn’t hurt that they are in fab colors, too, or that they are like stupid easy to make. Now this looks simple enough but I did ruin a few good eggs/feathers making one or two that just didn’t work out. So head on over to get the details and the how to over at Mom Spark.
