From what I can tell, there are two camps of gift givers. Ones who think that gift cards are an amazing idea and ones who think they are impersonal and therefore tacky. I fall into both categories, really. I can see that basically handing over money can seem to say “I didn’t want to take the time to figure out something to get you” but I can also see how great they are to receive.
Yep, I love gift cards and I have no shame when someone asks “what do you want for Christmas?” I’ll tell them all about how I NEED a new living room rug and therefore a gift card to Home Depot would be an amazingly generous and well received gift no matter the denomination. And I’ll pile my $20 and $50 cards and use them to get something I really need or really want. Because to be honest I’ve got more winter scarves than I can wear and I’ve given away boxes of home decor items that just don’t fit my style. And if you get me a tee shirt with a cartoon character I’m not going to wear it. I know I wear goofy tee shirts but I won’t be sporting the Tazmanian Devil in his tornado with nonsense printed next to him. I’m sorry.
So in an effort to make gift card giving more palatable I thought I’d make receiving them even more fun and totally personalized. The Balloon Gift Box tuorial over at Mom Spark was born! Now this didn’t go 100% as planned but I got over that and I’m totally digging the results. So head on over and check out the full post – Balloon Gift Box Tutorial at Mom Spark!
